2nd PAN-FRIED PORK DUMPLINGS
Ho Min San, Kuala Lumpur
My favourite item here. Ever. These delectable Shanghainese dumplings are steamed and fried at the same time resulting in a soft pillowy top and a crispy golden brown bottom. The soup inside is intense and full of flavour as is the pork filling. Be careful when you bite into them though. These do squirt! 🙈
3rd FRESH PRAWN DUMPLING IN "SZE CHUAN STYLE”
Grand Imperial Restaurant Hartamas Shopping Centre, Kuala Lumpur
Absolutely delicious! The prawns were fresh, the dumpling skin was thin and smooth, the sauce was utterly delicious. What more can one ask for?
5th PORK XIAO LONG BAO
Din Tai Fung 鼎泰豐 at 1 Utama Shopping Centre, Petaling Jaya
Skin thin enough that you can see the soup through it... we ordered 3 baskets of these delectable morsels.
9th MIX DUMPLINGS
Noodle Star K 누들스타 케이 @ Tanjong Pagar, Singapore
Mix of gogi mandu (pork dumplings) and kimchi mandu (kimchi & pork dumplings). These were fantastic. They were juicy and flavour packed… and just look at how thin the skin is!
10th CABBAGE WITH PORK DUMPLINGS
Xi’an Gourmet Food, Puchong
Looks plain but this was jam packed with flavour. Have it with some black vinegar and fresh ginger!
11th CHICKEN PELMENI
Torte by Linda, Puchong
Served with sour cream and a rather good homemade chilli dip. Full disclosure, I love dumplings so it’s a natural “Really Good” for me. Some people might find the skin a little too thick although I really don’t mind that at all.
12th DUMPLING VEGETABLES SOUP
Simple Life Healthy Vegetarian Restaurant, Petaling Jaya
These vegetable dumplings really hit the spot. Soup was good too, one of those a-hug-in-a-bowl kinda comfort food.
13th KIAW (DRY WANTON)
7th Mile Kitchen, Petaling Jaya
Pork wantons tossed very simply in a bit of light sauce and sesame oil. That's all you really need to enjoy this. And just look at how thin that wanton skin is... So good!
14th PAN-FRIED PORK WITH FRENCH BEAN DUMPLING
Paradise Dynasty @ Paradigm Mall, Petaling Jaya
Pan-fried dumplings with a juicy pork and french bean filling. Delicious! Be careful when you eat this, you might end up squirting your dining companions with 'soup' when you bite into your dumpling ;-)
PRETTY GOOD
15th PORK XIAO LONG BAO
Din Tai Fung The Gardens Mall, Kuala Lumpur
I feel like it’s better in another branch. It’s still good, and it could be my imagination... but I think I had better ones at another DTF. No shade though, I’d still order these if I revisit.
17th MAO SHAN WANG DURIAN XIAO LONG BAO
Paradise Dynasty @ Paradigm Mall, Petaling Jaya
Musang king durian. In a dumpling. Holy thorny fruit. This would be good for durian virgins, as the durian flavour was quite mild. Durian hardcores however, will find this slightly lacking. Best to stick to the actual fruit itself.
18th SHANGHAI "XIAO LOONG BAO"
Grand Imperial Restaurant Hartamas Shopping Centre, Kuala Lumpur
Slightly disappointed with this. The skin was a bit too thick and there was not enough soup in the dumplings. It’s not bad, but there are certainly better XLBs in town.
19th DUCK WANTON
Buay Pochana, Krung Thep Maha Nakhon
I can’t really fault this dish, there was much flavour in it and the wanton skin was thin and smooth. This one was just a preference issue.
20th FISH MAI
Tiong Hokkien Mee, Petaling Jaya
Fish balls. Not balls of fish.
21st SHUANG PIN RICE DUMPLING
Muar Yuen Chen Siang, Muar
Happy Dumpling Festival! This Teochew style glutinous rice dumpling came with a filling of pork, dried mushroom, chestnut, dried shrimp, red bean paste and salted egg yolk. Slightly different from the ones that I usually eat but interesting enough due to the addition of red bean paste. Available online and comes packed in a vacuum seal to retain freshness and I believe it’s only sold during the dumpling festival season.
