Privacy Policy
Last updated 15 September 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what information Eaten Technologies ("Eaten", "we", "us") collects through the Eaten app and website ("Service"), how we use it, and the choices you have.
1. Information we collect
Account information — when you sign up, we collect your name, email address and a username. If you sign up with Google, we receive your name, email and profile photo from Google rather than a password.
Content you create — reviews, ratings, photos, saved lists, comments and profile details you choose to add.
Location — with your permission, we use your device's location to show nearby restaurants and dishes on the map. You can decline or revoke this at any time in your device settings; the map still works, you'll just need to search or pick a city manually.
Usage data — how you interact with the app (screens viewed, searches, taps), device type and app version, collected to fix bugs and understand what's useful.
2. How we use your information
- To operate the Service — your account, feed, map, saved lists and reviews.
- To personalise recommendations of dishes and restaurants.
- To communicate with you — account notices, and product updates you can opt out of.
- To keep the Service safe — detecting abuse, fake reviews and fraud.
- To improve the Service through aggregated, anonymised analytics.
3. What we share
Your username, profile photo, reviews, ratings and public lists are visible to other users — that's the point of a review and discovery app. We don't sell your personal data.
We share data with a small number of service providers who process it on our behalf:
- Google Firebase — authentication and app diagnostics.
- Amazon Web Services — hosting, databases and image storage.
- Restaurants that have claimed their listing can see aggregated, non-identifying insights about their page (e.g. total views) — never your individual identity or contact details.
We may disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety or property of Eaten, our users, or the public.
4. Your choices and rights
- Edit your profile, reviews and lists at any time in the app.
- Turn off location access in your device settings.
- Request a copy of your data or ask us to delete your account — see our account deletion page.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws like the UK/EU GDPR or California's CCPA, including the right to access, correct or delete your personal data, or object to certain processing. Contact us to exercise these rights.
5. Data retention
We keep your account information for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we immediately delete data with no ongoing purpose once you're gone — your login credentials, push notification tokens, direct messages, follows, likes and blocks. Public content you posted (reviews, ratings, photos, comments and lists) stays visible, since other diners and restaurants rely on it, but is disconnected from your identity — your name, username, email and photo are replaced and can no longer be traced back to you. Some information may be retained for a limited period where we're required to by law, or to prevent fraud and abuse.
6. Children
Eaten isn't directed at children under 16, and we don't knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we'll remove it.
7. International transfers
Eaten is hosted on infrastructure that may process data outside your home country. Where that happens, we rely on appropriate safeguards required by applicable data protection law.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app.
