AMAZING
1st BAVARIAN 'GUIDE ROUGE' VEAL

This evening's winner!!! Jean Marc called it a "French Tafelspitz" but that doesn't do it justice. This veal was the most tender, most delicate piece EVER. Auvergne veal, perfectly slowly braised, pinkness? yes PLEASE! horseradish velouté, pommes carrés with pommery mustard, red cabbage and some fava beans. what a great interpretation of an Austrian institution. wow on a plate.
2nd GEBACKENER KALBSKOPF

Ahhh... Mr. Carastians dish for this lunch (And the main to the side salad). Kalbskopf, a.k.a. Tête de veau, a.k.a. veals head. tasty wonderful cheek meat, pressed and then breaded in panko and panfried. A Bavarian classic that is unfortunately only rarely on menus anymore (people think it is gross? I don't know...). Intense beef flavor, served with a home made (Think "from scratch") sauce and a wonderful Bavarian potato salad (potatoes, cucumber, some oil and vinegar, chives. done.). Bavaria - you are truly gods chosen country ;-))
3rd WIENER SCHNITZEL

REAL Wiener Schnitzel (veal) with a perfect pan-fried breading (NOT deep fried - that's a sacrilege!) served with a generous helping of preiselbeeren to dip that juicy meat in. Don't forget the fine Bavarian potato salad (no mayonnaise, just potatoes with oil, vinegar, salt, pepper, parsley and onions). Government never tasted that good.That's right folks - Hofbrau is owned by the Bavarian government. Sometimes "Socialism" is bliss ;-))
REALLY GOOD
5th WIENER SCHNITZEL

While it's not unusual to find a schnitzel in an 'Autobahn rest stop', it IS unusual to find one of this quality. Perfect crust, pan fried with butter (like it SHOULD be!) and served with perfect potatoes and preiselbeeren sauce. It's worth the drive wherever you're coming from! This little stretch of highway has really lucked out with the opening of this new Dinzler restaurant, cafe and rest stop.
6th VEAL WITH MARINATED LUKEWARM FENNEL ROCKET SALAD

Pan seared veal chop, thin and moist, on top of interesting lukewarm salad with orangey dressing. Combination worked well... happy diner!
7th PARMESAN CRUSTED VEAL CUTLET
Herrmannsdorfer Wirtshaus zum Schweinsbräu, Glonn
Beautiful thin cutlet with egg and parmesan crust, served on braised kohlrabi with a gravy that was TO DIE FOR. Classic and simple, yet soooooo flavorful. This kitchen knows what they are doing!
