Szechuan Hot Chicken Sando @ daybird
SZECHUAN HOT CHICKEN SANDO
daybird, Los Angeles
Jidori chicken thigh fried in rice bran oil. We got ours without the slaw. It comes in no heat, mild, medium, hot and extreme. We also got chicken tenders in each of the heat levels but I forgot to take a picture. The medium is spicy for me. I think I would probably do better with mild. The hot was crazy hot, even for my family who likes heat. Strangely, the hot was harder to eat than the extreme. I think it had more rub on the outside so it destroyed your lips and your tongue and the extreme didn't hit you until you swallowed it, so it got you in the back of your mouth and in your throat. You really have to get the right temperature to enjoy this properly. We had to go across the street to 7-Eleven and get a bunch of milk! The buns are great and I think they have a little sweetness in them - which is nice. There is no inside and no place to sit. It's very difficult to get into the parking lot if you're coming from the wrong direction, like we were. Chef Mei Lin was the winner of top chef season 12 and this is her very popular chicken shop.
