So Pret, as a chain, have consistently good pastries! Way better than any other chain I’ve come across. Th pastries are always warm, flakey and taste fresh. Really good!

I did a pastry class last year, learning to make croissant/pain au choc etc. Great fun. The instructor was talking about what to do when your croissants start to go stale and suggested that you could turn them into almond croissants! 🤨 Apparently this is a *thing* that many bakeries/hotels/cafes do - they cut the stale croissant open, put in the almond paste, dip the whole thing in a sugar syrup, a couple of flakes almonds on top and then re-bake to crisp it up. As a lover of almond croissants, I was horrified! Now I always keep an eye out for these - you can tell because they look slightly squashed and have clearly been cut open. Avoid!! In conclusion, Pret does *not* do this, their almond croissants are lovely.

I had fairly low expectations so was pleasantly surprised by this flakey croissant. They had warmed it lightly in their toaster oven so that probably helped. Inside was a core of fairly pleasant strawberry jam. Not too shabby.

Decent croissant - tasted pretty fresh, subtly sweet in that buttery way, decent flake. Nothing earth-shattering though.

I’m still not convinced about #vegan #pastry in general, as I find it a bit stodgy; but this was served warm and was pretty tasty.

“Hot!” It said on the sign, “great!” Says I, because who doesn’t like warm flakey pastry? This is not warm, flakey pastry. This is a hot mess. I used to love Coughlans but I feel like they’ve put their new commitment to veganism above taste. I genuinely believe these pastries are being served hot because they’d be borderline inedible otherwise. It was squishy, stodgy, almost tasting underbaked in the middle and not a laminated flake in sight. Sad face.

Was craving a croissant and knew either Pret or Eat did surprisingly good ones... turns out it’s Pret.

This tasted like disappointment in croissant form. Everything you dread a chain cafe pastry will be - stale, dry, chewy. #sadface
