I’m rarely excited by sambal kang kong; they have all (or largely) been mediocre in my experience. But this was surprisingly and incredibly delicious for its depth and complexity of flavor.

BRIEF: Roasted Cauliflower, Harissa, Hummus, Pickled Pomegranate SOOT’S TAKE: I’m not a fan of cauliflower but this was revelatory: the char on the cauliflower + hummus were a match made in heaven. I was not expecting to be a cauliflower convert tonight.

These are so addictive! The accompanying spicy dip is the Ying to the Yang of the fried kang kong. The experience is incomplete without the dip.

Grilled sucrine lettuce, herb yoghurt, macadamia nuts, cider vinegar glaze

Very fresh produce.

This was lovely and the best dish among the 4 attempted for the evening: sweet, yet fiery and it gave me the opportunity to use some of the baharat leftover from falafel I made earlier in the year. It also complemented everything else on the Christmas plate very well. Would repeat.

These green beans were a skinnier variety that I think I’d never had before.

When eating veg doesn’t have to be a chore.

Good. Basic good.

Not the sambal kangkung I’m familiar with. The stems in this dish are broader, flatter and on the whole, fresher and cleaner-tasting. My favorite dish of the evening.

This was tasty too and stir-fried kankung rarely excites me. I think I tasted kicap manis.

Good quality veg & fungi and some truffle flavoring doesn’t hurt.

This was particularly flavorful and it was in fact the best dish among the rest. I don’t know why? 🤷

I’d first heard of OmniMeat through years worth of IG posts of home cooked meals from a vegan Hong Kong-based ex-classmate. So imagine my curiosity when I saw that this resto had a plant-based section in their menu featuring OmniMeat! I’m not sure what thread is (presumably a substitute for minced pork?), but it worked with the string beans which were deliciously fresh and seasoned.

Comfort food-tasting.

Cauliflower griddle fried in spices. The green(ish) cauliflower makes a repeat appearance tonight, this time spiced with something I’m unfamiliar with. Tastiest cauliflower ever.

Best dish of the evening. I have yet to replicate this at home. 👩🏻‍🍳

Golden Lotus Roots w Pumpkin: Thinly sliced crispy lotus root tossed & coated in a layer of delectable salted egg sauce. Great start to the meal.

The obligatory shredded cabbage that comes with katsu.

Sautéed French Beans with Dried Shrimp and Minced Pork

BRIEF: “Beetroot puree, cayenne roasted cauliflower, sunflower & pumpkin seeds, Japanese pumpkin, kale, cranberries, beetroot pickled cauliflower, white balsamic, olive oil.” SOOT’S TAKE: Decent, although it got a bit monotonous halfway into the cauliflower which was devoid of cayenne. The haloumi also tasted air-fried rather then grilled.

Decently executed.

Dry-steamed, imparting a unique flavor to the cauliflower.
