REALLY GOOD
1st PORK NOODLES (DRY)
Peter's Pork Noodle, Kuala Lumpur
This dry version was delectable! The noodles (egg & broad rice) were blanched and stirred-in with soy sauces (et al.); topped with the fantastic cracklings. It was accompanied by a bowl of rich soup which had mince and slices of pork and on this occasion, an egg. This was a first try, and found a good marriage between the noodles and the flavourful soy sauces. Further enhanced by a couple of spoonsful of the porky soup stirred in by yours truly. Truly tasty. Richly satisfying. Yes, I have died and gone to pork heaven - again! Porkalicious! #noodles #porkalicious “Laters, Oinksters!”
2nd FISHBALL NOODLES (DRY)
Restoran Moon Chew 満洲茶餐室, Klang
This was really good, everything was fresh all round! From the fishballs, pieces of chicken, pork loin strips, pork crackling and fishcake to the parsley and spring onion garnishing. The soy sauces and oils combined to a scrumptious mixture, to flavour the broad rice and egg noodles. Enjoyed that! #eggnoodles #broadricenoodles #noodles #fishballs #fishcake #chicken #pork
3rd FISHBALLS & DRY NOODLES
Li Xin Teochew Fishball Noodles, Singapore
“Flamin’ fine fishballs... go get some, they’re yum!” The ‘Mee Pok’ noodles (slightly wide & thick yellow egg noodles) were tasty too - served dry with sauces, including tomato ketchup (only in Singapore)! Topped with pork cracklings and spring onion. A really good simple meal! Boom! 💥 #fishballs #noodles *But it’s a diminishing return for a preservation on price!*
4th JAVA NOODLES (MEE JAWA)
SS Mee Jawa Generasi, Malaysia
The proprietors are a Javanese family who make this rather exquisite dish. A tasty , sweet & sour, gravy-like soup is used to flavour the yellow egg noodles. Topped with fried tofu, boiled egg, fried dough, bean sprouts, fresh chilli, shallots and spring onions. Add a good squeeze of Asian lime, and Bob’s your uncle! Delicious! #noodles #java #tofu #vegetarian #indonesian
5th HAKKA NOODLES WITH CHAR SIEW
Toast & Roast, Petaling Jaya
This dish was really rather nice. The noodles were firm and tasty; balanced by the sauces and crisp fried fish ‘mince’. Even though this cut of barbecue pork was a tad on the fat side, it was quite delectable. The meat was succulent with a nice sweet glaze. Porkalicious! #pork #barbecuepork #porkalicious #noodles
6th GLASS NOODLES IN CLAYPOT WITH FRIED GROUPER
SK Seafood Noodle Restaurant, Klang
A really simple dish of glass noodles with sauces (I know not exactly what) and garlic, prepared in a claypot (though served in a pot which was actually metallic!). Really tasty and went well with pieces of fried grouper. #glassnoodles #noodles #fish
7th LO MIXED PLATTER WITH SPECIAL DRY NOODLES
潮乡故事馆 TeoChew Nang Cafeteria, Klang
Special Dry Noodles… thick egg noodles in a dry soy sauce mixture with minced pork and spring onions. Comes with a little bowl of stewed items: tofu, egg and meatball. Nice! #noodles #chinese
8th RED KOLO NOODLES
MAMA TING Sarawak noodle, Petaling Jaya
Really good. Char siew came up a little short for me, but that’s supposed to be the way for Sarawak-style
PRETTY GOOD
9th DRY LAMIAN NOODLES
7Village Klang, Klang
Pretty good - everything was fresh, but a tad too sweet. Lamian in soy sauces with pork slices, pork mince, fishballs, a soft boiled egg and Chinese soup greens. Garnished with chopped spring onions #noodles #lamian
10th SZECHUAN SPICY NOODLES
RESTORAN SUPERMIAN, Klang
Back again at Super Mian, and this time a try on the Szechuan Spicy Noodles. Served is their own-made Glass Noodles in a spicy Szechuan soup (of course!), and topped with spinach, peanuts, bean sprouts, fried bean curd, vegetarian ’anchovies’ & ‘fish’ and Szechuan chilli oil. The initial bites were insipid, with the thick glass noodles being somewhat bland; however, once the noodles took in the flavour of the soup, it became a pretty good dish. Intriguing this vegetarian food! #noodles #spicy #szechuan #chilli
11th SINGAPORE-STYLE HOKKIEN NOODLES
Ramen Keisuke Singapore | Ginza Tendon Itsuki, Singapore
Amazingly pretty good! Served up in a Japanese ramen eatery (bizarrely)… nicely prepared and flavourful. #noodles #singapore #fastfood
12th DRY NOODLES WITH MINCED PORK
Tai Kong Coffeeshop, Malaysia
This stall serves up an assortment of fishpaste filled items; with or without noodles. Had a simple combo of egg & broad rice noodles in soy sauces, mixed in with mince pork. Accompanied by a bowl of soup with fishballs, fishcake and fishpaste-stuffed bitter gourd. Not bad at all. #noodles
13th BEEF BRISKET & RADISH WITH PORK & BEEF MINCE NOODLES
Yang Ki Beef Noodle, Petaling Jaya
Pretty good (and I’m being generous!). Tender pieces of beef! Yellow egg noodles #noodles #beef #brisket #mince #pork
JUST OK
14th KOLO MEE
Family Kopitiam, Klang
A pork-free take on the Sarawak classic. This one had a flavour reminiscent of an Indomie ‘Mi Goreng’! It was ok. #noodles #porkfree #chicken #sarawak
