AMAZING
1st CARROT SOUP
Higgins, Portland
So fresh & earthy! Roughly chopped & thick. It shared the cup with another veggie, which I've forgotten, but the results were fabulous, like drinking carrots straight from the earth.
REALLY GOOD
2nd FISH AND SEAFOOD SOUP
Topaz Noodle Bar, New York
Delicious interesting broth with a sweet touch. Chock full of fresh, nicely done variety of seafood.
3rd SEAFOOD GUMBO
Fish Tales, New York
Shrimp, scallops, crabmeat, oysters & sausage with vegetables in a spicy Cajun tomato base. Very good & fun to eat. Better than the photo looks!
4th COLD MELON SOUP
Boucherie West Village, New York
With honey & musty micro greens! A lot of fun to eat.
5th CHILLED BORSCHT
Pierogi Boys, New York
Bright & fresh with Young Beets, Cucumbers, Radishes, Kefir, and lots of Herbs. So good, it's a gourmet borscht!
6th MARAG
Yemen Café, New York
Lamb soup. Very tasty! Never had any soup quite like it.
7th LENTIL & BROCCOLI SOUP
The Experimental Kitchen, USA
My variation on lentil & spinach soup. Maybe the former 177Milk Street recipe would’ve been better with yellow lentils & spinach, but I used what I had and it was darn good. The smoked paprika & cumin added a lot of flavor. I added loads of onions, some roasted red peppers & different salts & peppercorns. Dunking the toasted crusty miche made it a hearty dinner.
PRETTY GOOD
8th CHICKEN VEGETABLE SOUP
Rachel's Restaurant & Bakery, Ocean Beach
Lots of shredded chicken & fresh veggies, which I really appreciate. It's just what I wanted. The broth itself is more ordinary diner style. Oh, and look at that humongous fresh, hot bread!
