AMAZING
1st PORK SHANK
Powder House Rest., Keystone
This is THE BEST thing I've eaten in I don't know how long!! Volcano style pork shank braised in a classic pork demi glaze and served over mashed potatoes. They said that the sauce was made from their au jus (which was AMAZING also) and thickened. This beautiful plate of weep worthy food cost LESS THAN $20! I would gladly pay twice as much for this. I don't want to come back to South Dakota, so I need them to move the restaurant and the cabins to Northern California for me (whish is easier to visit for me)
3rd CRISPY PORK SHANK
DAMA Fashion District Restaurant & Bar, Los Angeles
Crispy and tender. Served with lettuce cups, hot pickled vegetables, avocado crema and cilantro and tortillas. Some onions would have complimented the dish.
4th CRISPY PATA
Smorgasburg, Los Angeles
From Pork and Spoon. Pork knuckle that is slow cooked to tender perfection, then fried and topped with a sauce. Crispy, tasty, delicious. "Do you want an egg on top?". The answer is always yes! This was the small serving. Get medium or large for family sharing!
5th JERK PORK
Rudie's Jerk Shack (Boxpark Shoreditch), London
Oooh... this was delicious. The jerk sauce was great and different than other jerk seasonings (a little sweeter, a little smoother). The pork was tender. We stuffed ourselves! Part of our #LondonEatUp
REALLY GOOD
6th FRIED PORK CHUNKS
Versailles Restaurant, Los Angeles
Tender lean chunks of pork marinated in their special garlic mojo sauce topped with onions. This was the best thing in their sampler plate, but the ruin of all other items on the plate. I would recommend this dish in it's entree form.
8th CARNITAS
Mercado, Los Angeles
Slow-cooked pork, guacamole, Salsa Brava, cauliflower al pastor and cilantro. The meat is amazingly tender, but it is not crisp on the outside. It's beautiful though. It has a pronounced Citrus flavor as well
9th CARNITAS
Mercado Pasadena, Pasadena
Chef Jose's slow-cooked natural pork, guacamole, Yxta salsa brava, pico de gallo, cauliflower al pastor, cilantro, tortillas
10th COCHINITA PIBIL
KA'TEEN, Los Angeles
Heritage pork, banana leaf, anchiote, bitter orange.
11th CHILE VERDE
Presidente Restaurant, Los Angeles
Tender chunks of pork cooked in a tomatillo sauce.
12th KALUA PORK LETTUCE WRAPS
Malama Pono Restaurant, Los Angeles
With pickled red cabbage, mac salad and furikake rice. it comes with five lettuce wraps already filled.
15th SHREDDED PORK BOWL
Oi Asian Fusion, Los Angeles
Braised pork, roasted sesame seed, scallions, seaweed, pickled red radish in a rice bowl. This was my son's favorite dish.
PRETTY GOOD
16th CARNITAS DE PUERCO
Presidente Restaurant, Los Angeles
It is with great sadness that I post this review. This restaurant had THE BEST carnitas for at least 20 years. You can look at my past reviews and see that the current version looks very different. The meat was fried harder and the pieces were thinner. Some of the pieces were a little bit thicker and okay, but overall the quality was drastically below what it had always been. I know that Presidente changed ownership a while ago and I'd heard people complain that they changed recipes... but the last time I had this dish, it was pretty close to what it had always been. This time, however, I need to drop it down from its number two spot on my list. I would hope that this was a bad night and not the new norm, but can I really order it again knowing what I know?
16th CARNITAS DE PUERCO
Presidente Restaurant, Los Angeles
YES! I LOVE their carnitas! Comes with your choice of tortillas. This dish has been consistently delicious for over 20 years. Best Carnitas ever!
16th CARNITAS DE PUERCO
Presidente Restaurant, Los Angeles
Crispy and tender pork for the win! My favorite dish here. The best carnitas I've ever had from a restaurant. It has been consistently delicious for over 20 years
18th CHICHARON
El Incomparable Peruvian Cuisine, Los Angeles
Very different from what I expected. It's basically deep fried pork: pork chunks and even Pork ribs! Much of the meat was lean, so the frying made it pretty dry.
JUST OK
20th MASAS DE PUERCO
Mojitos, San Fernando
Fried pork chunks with onions. They were nice and crispy, but the meat was a little too lean, so that made it tougher than I prefer.
