AMAZING
1st CHILAQUILES
Brockton Villa Restaurant, San Diego
Carnitas or Soy Chorizo / Scrambled Eggs / Sautéed Corn Tortilla Chips / Jack Cheese / Ancho Chile Salsa / House-Made Guacamole / Pico De Gallo / Cilantro / Sour Cream. Super yummy!
2nd CHILAQUILES ROJO (W/ CARNE ASADA)
MexCocina Cafe, Burbank
We enjoyed the carne asada more than the carnitas. Pass on the rice though...
3rd CHILAQUILES ROJO (W/ CARNITAS)
MexCocina Cafe, Burbank
With carnitas and fried eggs. Yesss, just like we make at home! The rice and beans were not great.
REALLY GOOD
4th PORK BELLY CHILI VERDE
Red Maple Cafe, Burbank
Apparently, this used to be on their menu but they removed it during the pandemic when they scaled back. They are making it this weekend as a special until they run out. This was the best thing I had here, so it's too bad you can't get it. Maybe they'll add it to their menu when they move in 2 weeks to their new location. Tender pork belly with some crispy bits under a lovely chili verde with some great citrus notes and the fried eggs on top.
5th CHILAQUILES A LA BANDERA (W/CARNITAS)
MexCocina Cafe, Burbank
Crispy tortilla chips tossed with both red and green sauces. It was great to try them side by side. My husband loves the red sauce but I prefer the green ( which is less spicy). I need to remember to get Chilaquile Verde with carne asada next time. I think that will be the perfect combination for me. I liked the flavor of the beans but the rice is no bueno.
6th MACHACA CHILAQUILES WITH RED SAUCE
I Love U Brunch, Los Angeles
Meat was excellent. Egg was overcooked, but they got me a new one. They also have this breakfast with green sauce.
7th MINI CHILAQUILES
Cheryl's on 12th, Portland
Nothing mini about this dish! With chorizo and egg. This tastes like breakfast nachos!
8th EGGS, BEANS AND CARNE ASADA
Daisy's Restaurant, Los Angeles
My husband requested this (since it's not on the menu) and they made it for him. He was very happy 😊
9th CHILAQUILES
Black Market Liquor Bar - Studio City Restaurant - NOW OPEN - Dine-In and Outdoor Dining / Outdoor Drinking, Los Angeles
This is a very different take on chilaquiles which used two tostadas that were sandwiched around above and under all the other ingredients. Carnitas, black bean, fresno pepper, cabbage, avocado, cotija. This was my husband's favorite dish. We were pleasantly surprised that all the ingredients tasted great together. There's a little too much cabbage and the tostadas were not my preference for chilaquiles.
10th VILLA-RITO
Brockton Villa Restaurant, San Diego
Pork Carnitas | Hash Brown | Scrambled Eggs | Roasted Poblano & Onion | Ranchero Sauce | Cheddar | Feta | Pico De Gallo | Tortilla Chips. Delicious.
11th CHILAQUILES
Casa de Nati, Los Angeles
With green salsa (you can also get red salsa). I added Steak Ranchero. The steak had a gristley spot, but otherwise was tender and tasty. Refried beans were really good! Hash browns were crispy (per request). The only problem was rhe tortillas... they were a little too chewy and almost impossible to get a fork into. I would get it again though to see if that was an exception.
13th CHILEQUILES
The Nest: A Breakfast Joint, Bellflower
Homemade tortilla chips sauteed with fresh tomatillo salsa, roasted pork, queso fresco, crema and avocado served with two eggs.
14th MACHACA
The Egg House, Simi Valley
Came with salsa and tortillas
15th CHORIZO AND EGGS
Eggs N Things, Santa Clarita
Three Eggs scrambled with Cheese ‘n’ Flour Tortillas. Good amount of chorizo!
16th FIESTA RANCHERA
Olympic Coffee Shop, Los Angeles
Top Sirloin steak with onions and peppers served with two eggs, rice, beans and choice of tortillas. The steak was cooked perfectly, but the cut of me was not flavorful. Sorry, I'm very spoiled when it comes to steaks 🤣
JUST OK
17th BEEF MACHACA
Daisy's Restaurant, Los Angeles
The beans and rice and tostada were really good. I didn't love the machaca though.
18th CHILAQUILES WITH CARNITAS
Mercado, Los Angeles
The carnitas are very good, but the chilaquiles are just ok. We did not prefer it with the salsa verde.
19th MACHACA
Olympic Coffee Shop, Los Angeles
Traditionally machaca uses chunks of beef that are shredded and mixed with the eggs. This head slices of roast beef that were cut into strips and mixed with the scrambled eggs. It wasn't what I was expecting so I was a little disappointed.
20th MACHACA SCRAMBLE
Eggs N Things, Santa Clarita
Scrambled Eggs, Shredded Beef, Onion, Tomato, Green Chile, Cilantro, Avocado, Jalapenos, Shredded Jack & Cheddar Cheese, topped with Sour Cream & Salsa ‘n’ Flour Tortillas. Ok. Not enough beef.
22nd CHORIZO AND EGGS
Halfway House cafe, Santa Clarita
It was fine. The rice was Minute Rice, but at least it didn't have vegetables in it. This place doesn't seem to have a lot of scratch made food. Almost ordered the corned beef hash until we were told that it was from a can. 😝
23rd MACHACA
Myke's Cafe, Los Angeles
Shredded beef, scrambled eggs, tomatos, onions, red and green bell peppers. Comes with choice of potatoes and corn tortillas. Not seasoned. Just okay. Corn tortillas ( they make) were good.
NOT FOR ME
24th CHILAQUILES VERDE WITH CARNE ASADA
Toasted Bun, Los Angeles
So many things wrong... The carne asada was impossible to cut. It was a completely hammered steak. if you're going to serve me uncuttable steak, then you should at least cut it into little pieces to hide the poor quality. The verde sauce was very acidic and they drowned the chilaquiles in it.
25th CHILAQUILES
Indita Mia restaurant, Tacoma
Traditional Mexican breakfast dish. Corn tortillas cut into quarters lightly fried sautéed with red salsa and topped with queso fresco, sour cream, onions and cilantro. Egg added.
