AMAZING
1st TABASCO & A1
Royal Lahaina Resort, Lahaina
An army of them... Waiting for orders...Spicing up shrimp salads the world over... and then some!
2nd RING OF FIRE XXHOT HABANERO HOT SAUCE
FLAMINGO FLATS, Saint Michaels
What a wonderful surprise, walking thru quaint little Saint Michaels, passing cute toy stores, nick nack stores and what not, and then we stumble into Flamingo Flats, where a wonderful guy called Bob sells his sauces and as well this gem from the West coast (Bob sports an impressive selection of hot sauces. wonderful) nice balanced levels of spice, Habaneros, but not just the tongue numbing heat but beautiful layers. Back home we had to use it on our slow cooker chili, loaded with beef, beans (Sorry h8trs) dark chocolate (with coffee beans) , onions. Simmered for 12 hours and enough left for tomorrow. Heaven!
3rd GLINITZER'S WIENER SALON NOUGAT HASELNUSS
Kavernen 1595, Salzburg
Wow. And if you think that this is REMOTELY related to "Nutella" sit down. focus: Nutella: made with predominantely sugar and palm oil. And only less than 20% of Hazelnuts. Is this really "Hazelnut" spread or a 200 calories per serving crap of lard... ? THIS on the other hand.. is art. Art in a jar..60% hazelnuts. sugar. some fat, cacao, bourbon vanilla. handcrafted. smooth, with bits and pieces.. lovely. Buy it. feel it. Reject the poison.
REALLY GOOD
4th HOMEMADE KETCHUP
Zur Post, Samerberg
The C's have to file this little jar of homemade ketchup under 'cute as shit'. Little C was feeling quite fancy dipping his pommes in there!
5th MOJO
Restaurante La Fonda, Pájara
A closeup of these amazing sauces... seriously the best we tasted on the whole island. This little restaurant puts out a mean menu for 2 people (22.47 Euros and a bottle of wine!) and we sat outside enjoying each course as it came out of the humble and artful kitchen.
6th CHIVES SAUCE
Gasthof Schloss Aigen, Salzburg
As the table ordered assorted Tafelspitz - bits of tender cow meat boiled in broth (see the "menu diagram" previously posted but the menu actually shows a cow and all the different pieces of it with a nice little description) - the sides and accompaniments starting showing up in one fell swoop. This one is a classic Chives cream. All the sauces are homemade AND delicious.
7th VEA PRIMERA COSECHA OLIVE OIL
Cafe Heiss, Bad Aibling
one of our favorite places to have a bike ride / walk end was our goal for today's little stroll to celebrate the last warmth before it supposedly drops to 2C. The classic Bavarian place, selling good beer (the Hofbrau Traunstein) and the salad came with this really wonderful and tasty EVOO. the Arbequina olives are harvested early, in November - although the yield is only 50%. Fruity, intense. wonderful. it is almost like a Spanish Bavarian love affair!
8th BUTTER, SALT & WASABI CREAM
Carpe Diem Finest Fingerfood, Salzburg
Time to kick off Mr C's birthday weekend... and what better way than a 1 Michelin star cafe right in lovely downtown Salzburg. Prepare yourselves... there will be a theme. HINT: Look at the salt receptacle. ;*) And btw - that wasabi cream was AMAZING.
9th SALT
Le Jardin de France, Baden-Baden
These tiny little tasty salt crystals went down so smoooooth with the French artisan butter on the AMAZING fresh from the oven breads coming up.
