AMAZING
1st CONE VARIATION
Carpe Diem Finest Fingerfood, Salzburg
Now back to the theme... CONES! From the back to front - Sole and chickpea with saffron risotto and saffron cone, a white bean soup with chili oil and beef tartar with garlic mashed potatoes hidden deep down in the peppercorn cone. All were downright delicious as well as adorable.
2nd BAVARIAN RIVER ROCKS
Restaurant Überfahrt, Rottach-Egern
A play on classic Bavarian beer garden food - this platter had an eye pleasing assortment served on local river rocks. Stone licking good! All 3 will be highlighted individually...
REALLY GOOD
3rd ANTIPASTI
L'Unico, Frankfurt am Main
A couple of Antipasti platters for the table - those guys are very attentive AND know how to make business ;-)) Vitello tonnato, Octopus, some olives, veggies... LOVE Italian Antipasti!!!
4th ANTIPASTI
Staatlicher Hofkeller, Würzburg
One more from the file vault ;-) Back in the Wine cellar in Wuerzburg, we not only drank nice wine, but had as well some solid food. all catered by a Vegetarian's nightmare - a local butcher. Therefore heavy on the meats. this was the starter and only decent shot (Darn you mood lighting!). not really antipasti but more patee ham, cheese and some olives for the non meat-eaters ;-)) a full meal in itself.
5th ANTIPASTI
Ristorante Nuova Firenze, Bad Aibling
a wonderful assortment of antipasti. grilled egg plant and zucchini, fagioli. grilled shrooms with rosemary, some seafood and onions in aceto balsamico... and loads of wonderful juices to be moped up with this bread..
6th HOMEMADE SÜLZE
Gasthof Alpenrose, Samerberg
The last stop on our 'culinary fall' restaurant tour (part of an annual program where local chefs create a theme menu - this one was the chicken and the egg) was the Alpenrose, set up on the scenic hillside. This was the greeting from the kitchen, and a fine howdy it was! Homemade poultry aspic, balsamic dressing, tiny beet cubes and crispy brown bread slices got our mouths watering for the meal to come.
7th INNTAL PLATTER
Herbstfest Rosenheim, Rosenheim
SAMPLER!!!! Nothing says festival fun like a slab of log covered in tasty regional treats such as Obazta (camembert cheese spread), assorted meats and sausages, radishes, schnitzel, cheese wedges - in a nutshell a carnivore's dream and a vegetarian's nightmare. TASTY!
NOT FOR ME
8th ANTIPASTI
Corpus Christi College, Oxford
They called it Antipasti, I call it salad, some mediocre sund dried tomatoes, artichoke and (non buffalo) mozzarella balls. Again - you come for the atmosphere not the food ;-))
