REALLY GOOD
1st KALBFLEISCHPFLANZERL
Schlosswirtschaft Maxlrain, Tuntenhausen
Nope... not a burger. A classic Bavarian dish made out of veal, herbs, bread crumbs, milk and spices. These were light and fluffy for Mr. C's main dish, with nice layers of flavor and perfect texture of crisp outside and soft inside. A little bit of gravy gave it added depth (and perfect for swooshing some of that bread in!) and the traditional Bavarian potato salad on the side is the classic accompaniment and a fine version. Overall a well done 'fancied up' version of classic Biergarten food!
2nd FLEISCHPFLANZERL MIT KARTOFFELSALAT
zum Sterzer, Prien am Chiemsee
A Bavarian Classic. Fleischpflanzerl with Bavarian Kartoffel Salad. Fleischpflanzerl comes from the old word "Fleischpfannzelte", where Zelte means flat pie. They are made of mixed ground meat (pork and beef), some bread, herbs (Marjoran, Parsley) and onions. Pan fried and utterly delish. The potato salad is with thinly sliced cucumber, oil, vinegar, salt pepper. Versions with Mayonnaise are from North Germany and frowned upon in the Carstian neck of the woods ;-))
3rd ALBONDIGAS
ROBINSON Club Esquinzo Playa, Esquinzo
An interesting fact, this island was historically under attack from Berbers - and their muslim influence is seen here in these tasty little meatballs. The name is said to be derived from the Arabic word for 'small round object' - how appropriate!
NOT FOR ME
4th ALBONDIGAS
Besitos Karlsruhe, Karlsruhe
Compared to the meatballs we just had in Spain recently, these were just plain bland. Miss!
