REALLY GOOD
1st HALLOUMI CHEESE KEBAB WRAP
Hapiha Mediterranean Fast Food, Singapore
They’d run out of pita bread(!) so I settled for a wrap. Halloumi was good.
2nd LETTUCE WRAPS
Chung Ling Alumni Club Restaurant, Petaling Jaya
This was the filling of some tasty lettuce wraps (🥬 not shown) and I think(?) it was largely composed of jicama. Excellent with a dash of the accompanying sambal.
3rd DUCK LETTUCE WRAPS
Asia Grand Restaurant, Singapore
These were really well done with pine nuts. I wanna call em’ Chinese bossam.
4th VEGETARIAN RENDANG WRAP
cafe, Kuala Lumpur
Potent combination of spices and protein in a tortilla wrap composed of “virgin coconut oil, cucumber, kampung egg, caramelized cashew brittle, tempeh, roasted seasonal veggies with curry rendang.” This was tasty but it left me runny in the nose and gasping for a cold drink.
PRETTY GOOD
5th MEATLESS BEEF, AVOCADO OMELETTE, MUSHROOM & CHEESE WRAP
Starbucks, Singapore
BRIEF: “Made with IMPOSSIBLE™* plant-based beef.” SOOT’S TAKE: I had to eat something after the show and this seemed like the most appropriate package and amount for what I wanted and needed. My only beef (pun totally intended) was the taste of fully-cooked egg yolk (which I absolutely detest) in the omelet.
7th MIX POPIAH 鸳鸯薄饼
Restoran Ipoh Kong Heng, Ipoh
My first time trying fried popiah (or is it practically a larger spring roll?). Both are decent but nothing to write home about.
8th VEGETARIAN WRAP
Outback Pioneer Kitchen, Yulara
roast pumpkin, rocket, semi dried tomato, fetta and pesto
9th 詠春園薄餅 SPRING COURT TRADITIONAL POPIAH
Spring Court - Celebrating Singaporean Chinese Cuisine Since 1929, Singapore
A signature dish of the restaurant’s and at $8.20, also the most expensive popiah I’ve ever had. I think I’ll stick with hawker center popiah.
10th TURKEY WRAP
San Diego Convention Center, San Diego
Tasted like a Caesar salad with turkey wrap... Oh god, I hope I don’t die. 😱
11th FALAFEL WITH MINT AIOLI & DUKKAH
The Soup Spoon, Singapore
Falafel, together with tomato slices, cheese and aragula leaves, served in flatbread with mint aioli sauce and delicious nutty dukkah spice.
12th EGGXELLENT AVO WRAP
Well Dressed Salad Bar, Singapore
Creamy Avocado and egg with crunchy rainbow greens with in-house veganaise. Comes with lemon herbed potatoes and sea salt seaweed chips.
