REALLY GOOD
1st CHILLED TOFU WITH PIDAN
Folklore, Singapore
Rich but clean tasting tofu dish with pickled radish and century egg.” This was excellent! In fact, I am amazed the chef managed to pull it off, despite my aversion towards tofu, century egg, pickled radish (or anything pickled for that matter) or chilled savory dishes.
3rd 客家滑豆腐 HOMEMADE BEANCURD
Seafood Park Pte. Ltd. - Clementi, Singapore
The beancurd on its own was good, even if the sauce was so-so.
4th 铁板菜香豆腐 (自制) HOTPLATE BEANCURD W MINCED MEAT & PICKLED VEGETABLE
Dian Xiao Er, Singapore
Hotplate Beancurd w Minced Meat & Pickled Vegetable. 270 kcal for small portion, apparently.
11th 泰式炸豆酱 THAI STYLE DEEP FRIED TOFU
Kopitown, Singapore
Served in a sweet chili sauce to make it Thai-tasting!
13th TAHU TELOR
Warung M. Nasir, Singapore
Unlike other tahu telor(s) that are doused with kicap manis (a sweet Indonesian soy sauce), their version was served with a gravy that tasted like the kind served in a local Malay dish called gado gado.
14th CLASSIC BEANCURD
SOYLAB, Malaysia
Their signature and it’s served warm with a homemade syrup of your choice. I opted for the brown sugar syrup.
15th TAHU TELOR
Ayam Penyet President, Singapore
Indonesian style bean curd omelette garnished with bean sprouts, sliced carrot and sliced cucumber. With a rich peanut sauce.
17th TOFU
Ayamuya, Osaka
Fresh tofu from Kawagoe in Saitama prefecture.
JUST OK
19th 黄焖干丝 BRAISED SHREDDED DRIED BEANCURD WITH HAM
TungLok XiHé Peking Duck, Singapore
Generally not excited about soupy, starchy, bland-ish tofu-y things. 🤷‍♀️
21st SPICY TOFU
OMOOMO, Singapore
To be fair, this lies somewhere between just ok and pretty good. I mean, it manages to make tofu a little more appetizing with a spicy sauce, but in a one-dimensional way and that’s it.
22nd 金瓜豆腐 BEANCURD WITH PUMPKIN SAUCE
Cathay Restaurant (Horizon) Sdn. Bhd., Nusajaya
I nominate this for the “Hospital Food of the Year” award.
NOT FOR ME
25th 宫保腰果豆腐 KUNG PAO BEAN CURD, CASHEW NUTS
Man Fu Yuan Restaurant, Singapore
This was unusually vinegary, which spoiled an otherwise good dish.
