REALLY GOOD
1st 至尊鸳鸯豆腐會 IMPERIAL BEANCURD WITH SPINACH
Noble Mansion 大陽城酒家, Petaling Jaya
The best dish of the evening. The bean curd was surprisingly flavorful for something that for me has been traditionally bland. The spinach was unnecessary.
3rd 爆浆小豆腐 CRISPY TOFU STUFFED WITH SOYMILK
Xiang Xiang Hunan Cuisine @ One Holland Village, Singapore
When tofu is not boring. 😋 This is how tofu should be enjoyed: fried to crispy goodness and topped with moreishness, not drenched to soggy inspidness in some stodgy starch-heavy gravy!
5th 特制香脆有机豆腐 CRISPY FRIED TOFU WITH SPICY SAUCE
Dian Xiao Er, Singapore
Would repeat this. The best of all the dishes tonight! 😋
6th CHILLED TOFU WITH PIDAN
Folklore, Singapore
Rich but clean tasting tofu dish with pickled radish and century egg.” This was excellent! In fact, I am amazed the chef managed to pull it off, despite my aversion towards tofu, century egg, pickled radish (or anything pickled for that matter) or chilled savory dishes.
9th TAHU TELUR
Betawi Indonesian Cuisine (TTDI), Kuala Lumpur
“Light and fluffy egg and tofu omelette, fried to crispy perfection and served atop a bed of rich, savoury peanut sauce.”
16th YONG TAU FOO OFFERINGS
Puchong Yong Tau Fu, Puchong
Pick your YTF ingredients to either be served in a broth or deep fried.
17th YONG TAU FOO
Puchong Yong Tau Fu, Puchong
In a steaming subtle fish broth (can you see the steam?) This one had gluten balls stuffed with fish paste in addition to the usual yong tau foo fare i.e. fish paste stuffed in every conceivable orifice of any incarnation of beancurd or vegetable.
18th BEANCURD SKIN IN HOT OIL
Puchong Yong Tau Fu, Puchong
Part of the fried yong tau foo repertoire. Fried or plunged in a roiling broth.
19th DEEP FRIED YONG TAU FOO
Puchong Yong Tau Fu, Puchong
An assortment of fried yong tau foo consisting of fried beancurd skin with a small parcel of fish paste in the middle, fried brinjal with a small parcel of fish paste in the middle, fried spring rolls.
20th 自制小麦草豆腐 SIGNATURE WHEATGRASS TOFU WITH SEAFOOD
Dian Xiao Er, Singapore
The inside of their handmade tofu is also green. From the wheatgrass.
21st 石锅滑豆靥 STONE POT HOMEMADE BEAN CURD
PUTIEN Holland Village, Singapore
BRIEF: “Tofu sizzling on stone pot, resulting in a slightly charred exterior yet silky smooth on the inside; best paired with rice! SOOT’S TAKE: Hate the lighting but decent.
23rd 瑶枉松菇翡翠豆腐 BRAISED HOMEMADE JADE BEANCURD WITH DRIED SCALLOP AND BUNAPI MUSHROOMS
NUSS-The Scholar, Singapore
Comfort food-tasting in the way it’d feel if I were bedridden and this was one of few things I could stomach. Otherwise, I keep envisioning white bunnies as I stare at the shrooms and think of “Bunapi Mushrooms” aloud. 🙄
