AMAZING
1st POPPY BAGEL & SCALLION CREAM CHEESE
Ess-a-Bagel Time Out Market New York, New York
Excellent! I liked how well-leavened it was and that it wasn’t too chewy. The cream cheese : bagel ratio was perfect too!
REALLY GOOD
2nd POPPY SEED BAGEL WITH SPRING ONION CREAM CHEESE
Park's Bagels, Petaling Jaya
As good a bagel as can be found in the Big Apple but in petite form. Or at least, I enjoyed it as much as I did the ones in NYC.
3rd EVERYTHING BAGEL WITH SCALLION CREAM CHEESE
Absolute Bagels, New York
Extra bagel to go from the day before for breakfast.
4th POPPY BAGEL WITH CHIVES AND GARLIC CREAM CHEESE
Absolute Bagels, New York
The line out of this store was insane (a bunch of guys literally came up to ask what the deal was) but it moved quick. I got this to go for my Central Park hike and it was lovely eating it on a park bench in beautiful weather.
5th BLACK ONION-SEED BAGEL & LOX
Soots Cook Nook, Private
One of my favorite ways to enjoy a bagel. Happy Bagel & Lox Day! 🥯
6th BREAD AHEAD’S “NEW YORK BAGELS”
Soots Cook Nook, Private
These are great: chewy yet tender, despite the lack of NYC’s bagel-making water. Coated with everything but the poppy seeds.
PRETTY GOOD
7th THE PERFECT LOAF’S SOURDOUGH BAGELS
Soots Cook Nook, Private
These were tasty but chewy as heck; so chewy in fact, it only took finishing half a bagel to result in some serious jaw fatigue 😅 I know they’re supposed to be chewy but never having actually sampled one from a NYC deli, who knows if I made them too chewy on this potential TMD-inducing National Bagel Day? 🫠🥯
8th BLACK ONION-SEED BAGELS
Soots Cook Nook, Private
My first time working with Nigella seeds. They’re very aromatic and they go well with the chopped onion in the dough. Happy day before National Bagel Day!
JUST OK
9th FOODGEEK’S PERFECT SOURDOUGH BAGELS
Soots Cook Nook, Private
It’s National Bagelfest Day and a Wednesday at that, which brings me back to some of my first attempts at sourdough bagels during the height of the pandemic. They were by no means perfect (I think my flour was wonky) but hey, I got rid of ALL the milk powder in the pantry. Yay!
