REALLY GOOD
1st 红糖糍粑 | BROWN SUGAR RICE CAKE
小李酸菜鱼 Lee’s Signature Fish ( Eco Galleria ), Iskandar Puteri
Somehow I inadvertently created a peep after chewing off a burn-the-hell-out-of-your-mouth portion of the rice cake. Happy Easter I guess? 🐣
2nd MUAH CHEE
Ming Court Hong Kong Dim Sum Sdn Bhd, Ipoh
The best thing I had at this establishment. 😋
3rd 原味 ORIGINAL + 黑芝麻 BLACK SESAME
No.81 Mochi 81号麻芝, Kuala Lumpur
Glutinous rice flour (sticky rice) cake pieces in 2 coats. The original is coated with peanuts and sugar and I reckon the black sesame one is coated with ground black sesame seeds and sugar.
PRETTY GOOD
4th CONSTELLATION INSPIRATION’S WHOLE MANGO MOCHI
Soots Cook Nook, Private
Ripe, fragrant, honey-sweet mango encased in sleeves of soft, sticky, chewy mochi. Happy Mango Day! 🥭
5th NYT COOKING’S NIAN GAO | BAKED SWEET POTATO STICKY RICE CAKES
Soots Cook Nook, Private
Fresh out of the oven for today’s guests and inspired by the traditional steamed kind in SE Asia. They remind me of butter mochi.
6th MOCHI BACON WITH MENTAI MAYO
Panko Restaurant & Bar, Singapore
Unbelievably tiny (about the length of my thumb) and unremarkable for the price.
JUST OK
7th 磯巻
錦 もちつき屋, Kyoto
I’m not sure what they were but they were grilled, chewy (like mochi) and savory (with shoyu).
