REALLY GOOD
1st SCHEZWAN MASALA THOSAI
Thosai Cafe, Petaling Jaya
BRIEF: “Spicy Indo-Chinese sauce with onions, spring onions, and potato masala.” SOOT’S TAKE: Thought I’d try something different and it was tasty but it made my nose run continually. 🤧🥵
2nd DIL KHUSH (HAPPY) THOSAI
Thosai Cafe, Petaling Jaya
BRIEF: “Loads of spring onions with cottage cheese and cheddar cheese on a thosai.” SOOT’S TAKE: As tasty as I remembered it to be. I could eat more of this than say, the Schezwan Masala version which really challenged my spice tolerance 🥵
3rd DIL KUSH (HAPPY) THOSAI
Thosai Cafe, Petaling Jaya
BRIEF: Loads of spring onions with cottage cheese and cheddar cheese. SOOT’S TAKE: Metaphorically and temporarily, it made my heart happy, but probably not physically.
4th BUTTER CHUTNEY POWDER THOSAI
Thosai Cafe, Petaling Jaya
BRIEF: Topped with special red chutney & Indian spices. SOOT’S TAKE: Also v nice.
5th ROYAL THOSAI
Heavens, Singapore
Thosai is a South Indian savory fermented pancake that’s usually served with sambhar (lentil curry) and tomato chutney. Today I deviated from my usual order of Thosai Masala, opting for the priciest thosai on the menu. It’s stuffed with egg, onions, butter, cheese and masala potato filling. I left feeling stuffed and satisfied. 😋
6th PUDI DOSA
MTR, Kuala Lumpur
“A thick rice & black gram crepe topped with chutney powder and spiced potatoes, served with chutney and lentil sambar.” Delicious repast to assuage the hunger situation. That chutney powder was like crack.
NOT FOR ME
7th SB RED ALERT
Restaurant Saravanaa Bhavan Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur
Sooty M’s anticipation has just taken a nosedive with the discovery of a solid strand of coarse human hair, conspicuously buried in my potato mash. Immediately her thoughts fly haphazardly towards the possible source of this hair. Where did it epilate from?!? The face? Head? Pit? Or worse? Threat level: RED #hairisnotveggie
8th MASALA THOSAI
Heavens, Singapore
I was really looking forward to enjoying this on-site with all the condiments laid out separately on their compartmented plate (as opposed to being mixed together in a takeout bag which is how I normally purchase thosai). Alas, as I tore into the thosai’s middle, a long strand of hair exposed itself very conspicuously among the potato filling. 🤮 That completely tainted the experience and I’m afraid it may be game over between me and masala thosai from Heavens🤢😔
