REALLY GOOD
1st FABLES SPECIALTY COFFEE RED RIDING HOOD ESPRESSO BLEND
Cold Storage, Singapore
BRIEF: “A delightful espresso blend [of Ethiopian, Central and South American Medium-light Roasted Arabica Coffee] leading with a floral and fruity front reminiscent of sweet stone fruit with a delicious base of dark chocolate and caramel.” SOOT’S TAKE: It’s rare for me to enjoy more than one variety of coffee pod from the same brand, which suggests Fables Coffee might well be worth their weight in gold 💰
2nd LAVAZZA QUALITÀ ORO CAPSULES
CS Fresh The Star Vista, Singapore
I don’t typically care for fruity or floral notes in coffee but this is the best of the pods I’ve tried so far.
3rd TCE SINGLE ORIGIN BRAZIL SMOOTH BLACK FILTER COFFEE
The Star Vista, Singapore
Received this FOC on account of visiting the cat cafe booth at “Pets Social Ground 2023: A Space Pawdyssey,” my ‘liking’ their INSTAGRAM page and my looking like I really needed a cold refreshment (I was literally dripping sweat from my chin 🥵). It was surprisingly fruity (and drinkable) in a way I’d never really experienced in a good way before in coffee.
4th LONG BLACK
Rosemead Singapore, Singapore
Nice. Didn’t need any sugar (a first!) but kept me unhungry for rest of day.
5th DUNKIN' ORIGINAL BLEND
Dunkin' Donuts, Singapore
Probably the only coffee I'd drink black unapologetically today. Hipster coffee's too acidic for me.
PRETTY GOOD
6th DI STEFANO COFFEE ROASTERS FAIR TRADE AND ORGANIC 1735
Jaya Grocer The Gardens Mall, Kuala Lumpur
BRIEF BLEND NOTES: Toffee, Pomegranate, Lime A medium roast perfectly suited to short black, macchiato and piccolo coffee styles. INTENSITY 7/10 SOOT’S TAKE: Eminently more drinkable as a lungo than their 1820 signature blend which is designed to be served as a flat white or a cappuccino. 8/10
9th COOK’S ILLUSTRATED’S CAFÉ DE OLLA
Soots Cook Nook, Private
Celebrating Coffee Day with a pour over inspired by café de olla porqué sí.
13th MILANO MORNING
Bacha Coffee ION Orchard, Singapore
Whatever it was, the aroma inside this coffee boutique was so amazing that I had to ask about it. “Chocolate Hill” it was called and after a few sniffs from various bins of coffee, I settled on a different but similar blend I was more partial to called “Milano Morning.” At first sip, I’ve concluded that this coffee smells better than it tastes, but that might change with a few more servings and under less stressful conditions.
15th 7CAFÉ LONG BLACK
7-Eleven, Singapore
Hoping this can be my wake-up cup today🤞
16th VIVALTO LUNGO
Farmer's Daughter Hotel, Los Angeles
First time using a nespresso machine.
18th PUMPKIN PIE ROAST
The Library Café, Champaign
Freshly baked pumpkin pie combined with all the classic spices. There were maybe(?) hints of it and the coffee was generally drinkable.
20th AMERICANO
Dominique Ansel Bakery Omotesando Store, Shibuya-ku
It’s pretty good in Sooty M’s books because it’s drinkable in Sooty M’s books.
JUST OK
21st STARBUCKS® PIKE PLACE® ROAST BY NESPRESSO®
Village Grocer @ 1 Mont Kiara, Kuala Lumpur
Not what I remember it to be but I used to have my cuppas brewed in-store or at home in my drip coffee maker.
22nd AMERICANO
Tanamera Coffee & Roastery Arcoris, Kuala Lumpur
Virtually undrinkable without 2 sugar packs.
25th AEROCANO
Cream Cafe ( Imazium ), Petaling Jaya
I took a sip of @furflebear ‘s order and it is potent. Not for me and thankfully not mine 😅
26th AMERICANO
Maison de PB by Paris Baguette, Singapore
I needed 3 sugar packets to get through this. 😓😖
27th COSTA RICAN BREW
Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, Singapore
Not v drinkable w/o 3 packs of sugar and milk.
28th COFFEE
Gleneagles Hospital, Singapore
Not ok on it’s own. I had to add creamer in addition to sugar to de-“tar”-ify it.
