A rather statuesque wedge of speculaaskruiden-spiced Pink Lady apples and golden raisins, nestled in a fine-textured yet satisfyingly sturdy crust. The dough was a dream to line but a challenge to top— virtually every strip threatened to break (and did break) the moment I lifted it. Still, the result was worth every fiddly moment: a scrumptious way to mark Apple Pie Day.

When you're bored, waiting, feeling slightly weak. After which you're approached to fill out a survey on McDonald's with a translator in tow!

Not a bad mid-day snack. PAI EPAL ended up on the survey as my fav dish at McDonald's® after my surveyor suggested it.

Skipped the tryptophan haze and went straight to dessert with this winner from @beatrixbakes’s latest book, “Beatrix Bakes Another Slice.” The slattice top crust was fun to assemble as was eating it in all its flaky, nutty, slightly savory, buckwheaty glory, not to mention the medley of textures and flavors in the filling, derived from Envy, Queen, Cripps Red, Granny Smith, Pink Lady apples. I am also proud to report that this one passed the #sturdypiechallenge! 🏆

Tender chunks of apple lightly bound in a thickened sauce just sweet enough and with a hint of spices.

The one thing they get consistently right.

Good but very overpriced.

BRIEF: “Just when you think our Apple Pies couldn’t get any better, you are in for a treat with a new combination of warm, thick custard and crunchy apple fillings!” SOOT’S TAKE: If you’d subjected yours truly to a blind taste test, yours truly would never have been able to differentiate between a regular apple pie and an apple custard pie. #justsayin

An oldie but a goodie. If there’s one thing I’m grateful for about McDonald’s, it’s that they kept their fried pies in this part of the world.

When it’s been 3 years since one made an apple pie and this spiced up version with cardamom and spiced cookie in the crust more than takes care of that craving…

Can you spot π on the pie? The Gooey Apple Pie that is. Insanely challenging crust to handle and it was all my fault for not following the recipe to a tee. Had to place the dough piecemeal over the apples. But you get tender chunks of apple lightly bound in a thickened sauce just sweet enough and with a hint of spices.

Observing National Pie Day with my last slice of apple pie for the year…
