This is the original Koon Kee and it is on Hang Lekir Street (formerly Cecil St.). The place is just off KL’s famous (and infamous) Petaling St. and is normally obscured by a line of street vendors. It has been around for a very long time and is famed for the firmness of its own-made noodles. For a period of time, it went through a dip in standards, but with the return of the (prodigal) son of the founder, it has restored some semblance of past glories. These noodles were served dry (through a process of tossing them in a bowl of sauces & oils until throughly coated). It was topped with barbecue pork that had a sweetish glaze. These noodles were served firm and covered with good sauces and oils. The roast pork was nicely seasoned with a good crunch, and the barbecue pork, with a light sweet glaze, was tasty. Had this as ‘a takeaway breakfast’ and eaten cold! Nevertheless, it was very tasty... like its PJ counterpart, serving up decent noodles in fine sauces, good barbecue pork and fresh baby pak choi (poor vegetables, they rarely get any credit!). This is a first try of dry wonton noodles (in soy sauces) with a curry. This combination has been quite popular with many Malaysians for some time now. The rationale here was that Good Taste would be a good place to try it, as their wonton noodles have been tried and tested; whilst the curry pork was mild, aromatic, tender and tasty. The stall has no individual name, however, it has a nickname... ‘The Irate Lady’s Noodles’! These noodles are ‘bathed’ in a thick mixture of sauces and oils... best consumed as a takeaway; allowing the sauces & oils to infuse with the noodles. This place is reputed to be the oldest Wonton Noodles in Klang and were originally found at the Klang Food Emporium (Emporium Makan). This dish was made with the broader wonton noodles. This place is an offshoot of the original KL eatery, as branches have sprung out around the Klang Valley; with relatives of the founders taking the name and starting their own. Yes, it’s crazy! And in this crazy world of a pandemic, any opportunity to dine out would almost certainly mean having wonton noodles! The quest continues... The wonton noodles were somewhat average and quite forgettable, but the barbecue pork is what one really goes for here; beautifully done with a soft, sticky sweet finish - well worth a try. Served with a side serving of wontons in soup. Pricey too, which adds to the ‘Just OK’ rating.
