AMAZING
1st YUZU & CANDIED CITRUS TART

This is a true work of art! Eating it was not a disappointment, either. The yuzu cremeux in the almond flour shell had a lovely Yuzu citrus flavor. The drops of blood orange, orange & tangerine gel probably added depth & breadth to the citrusy flavor. The slight bitterness was probably from house-candied citrus & preserved lemon. All that & the little puffs of toasted meringue, too! A shame to eat it! But not really.
2nd NECTARINE TART

Plump & moist, tart & sweet, buttery pastry & crunchy almond slivers. So, so good. I tried eating it sparingly, but it’s all gone now! I guess I’ll have to buy another one! PS I did buy another one & realized it was not a tangerine but a nectarine!🤣I thought it tasted unusual for a tangerine & they’re not in season. I wonder if they roasted or caramelized the nectarine. It’s extra special!
3rd FLAN PARISIEN

Rich, soft with a touch of sweet & vanilla in a many-layered crispy shell. Heavenly. Note: I actually bought this yesterday at Smorgasburg, the food court, in Williamsburg, but it was the last day of the season & they’re always available at julien boulangerie.

4th TRIPLE BERRY TART

Local berries (as is everything on the menu) & so fresh. The filling was so creamy & all in all delicious! Only the birthday candle was missing!
5th STRAWBERRY LEMONGRASS TART

The freshest lemongrass pastry cream, like it just came out of a cow! It’s inside a sweet, dense, flaky almond tart shell, topped with fresh strawberries, which were firm & a little sweet & finished with a lemongrass glaze. Very enjoyable! The lemongrass adds a nice bright contrast & interest.
6th PEAR FRANGIPANE TART

Almond tart shell, traditional frangipane, poached pear, elderflower glaze. I loved the rich flakey pastry shell! The pear had the perfect soft firm texture. I don’t know where the frangipane was! 🤔

7th TARTE AUX FIGUE

Excellent crispy layered pastry holding a thin uneven layer of good pastry creme, topped with fresh figs. I bought it because it looked so pretty & I thought fresh figs would be good, but they seemed bland to me. I thought they’d be flavorful. They were fresh. Note: I bought this at Smorgasburg in Williamsburg but it was their last day of the season (outdoor food court), but you can always get them (maybe in-season) at julien boulangerie.
8th PECAN TART

Beautifully done pastry & tasty filling, but the amount of pastry overtook the filling, flavor & texture-wise. Maybe the filling could’ve been more intensely flavored.
9th APRICOT TART

The pastry is layered & flakey. The apricot is tart. The custard is fine. I’ll give them another chance with another type of tart sometime.
10th BLUEBERRY TART

Well-executed pastry & fresh custard. It was lacking in distinctive flavor. Pleasant, but I won’t repeat it.
