AMAZING
1st PLANTATION LOS ANCONÉS GRAND CRU SAN FRANCISCO DE MARCORIS
Michel Cluizel, Paris
This 73% chocolate is so earthy and rich with mysterious depth of flavor! I bought it at #AtTheMeadow in NYC for US$15 for 2.46 Oz. It is $12 on the Cluizel website as it it is at www.cocoastore.com. I’ll keep the price difference in mind for the future.
2nd DESCHUTES BREWERY® BLACK BUTTE PORTER TRUFFLE
Moonstruck Chocolate Cafe, Portland
Deep chocolate with a creamy beery inside. It even tasted a little fizzy! Amazing melding of flavors. I must try that beer. I must have more truffles. Here's their description: "A dark beer, Black Butte Porter has as light hop bitterness up front that enhances the distinctive chocolate and roasted finish. It's prized for its creamy finish and intense complex flavor." True!
2nd DESCHUTES BREWERY® BLACK BUTTE PORTER TRUFFLE
Moonstruck Chocolate Cafe, Portland
Deschutes Brewery Black Butte Porter Beer reduction mixed with dark & milk chocolate ganache in a dark chocolate shell. First of all, the chocolate is so smooth, rich & delicious. But when you get to that Porter reduction: wow. The sharp beer flavor is an amazing counterpoint to the chocolate & each is highlighted.
3rd MATCHA NAMA CHOCOLATE ”MACCHA”
Royce Chocolate @ Sakura Matsuri - Brooklyn Botanic Garden, USA
It’s so creamy! Mixed with powdered green tea & cherry brandy, it has an intriguing flavor throughout each bite, & “a bittersweet finish” they say. Like life. I said that. It’s white chocolate so it has rich cocoa butter. Swoonworthy. 🤤
4th XOCOLATL DE DAVID SALTED CARAMEL
The Meadow | N Mississippi Ave., Portland
The first bite and I’m in love! 😍 Creamy bright salted caramel inside a sharp rich, yet smooth chocolate. I forgot about the caramel, so it was a happy surprise, but then that chocolate flavor & texture was also amazing. Fireworks bursts of flavors!💥
5th LICORICE & SEA BUCKTHORN CHOCOLATE
Economy Candy, New York
This Goodio chocolate is the most unusual chocolate I’ve had that is one of excellent quality! I really taste the licorice (from Helsinki!). It is nicely balanced with the piquant Nordic sea buckthorns, whatever they are. 😆 It’s vegan, no less! Swipe to see the actual chocolate.
6th BLOOD ORANGE CHOCOLATE
Cacao, Portland
Made by The Chocolate Makers Studio in Portland. A rich, dark, smooth melt-in-your-mouth chocolate. The dried blood orange slices add a chewy, citrus tang. Potent combination!
7th PURE GOLD TRUFFLE
Moonstruck Chocolate Cafe, Portland
The sweet whiskey is a true whiskey flavor (& a good one, too) & blends so well with the smooth, rich dark chocolate ganache! There’s some honey flavor & it’s all enrobed in a delicate dark chocolate shell. Swoon-worthy!
8th YUZU GINGER ROSE DARK CHOCOLATE BAR
TCHO, Berkeley
Japanese candied Yuzu with it’s citrusy floral notes layer with the warmth & bite of soft crystallized ginger & the lovely scent & flavor of dried Egyptian rose petals in a rich creamy dark chocolate. Need I say more?! Except that it’s a limited edition. Going going gone (in my mouth).
9th CARAMEL PECAN BAR
Alma Chocolate, Portland
Sweet & salty, creamy & crunchy. The chocolate is rich & delicious. What a fabulous combination. I ordered it directly from the company, but couldn’t find the address on the map, so I posted the cafe. They’re 3,000 miles away from where I am now!
10th CHOCOLATE TRUFFLES
Jinju Patisserie, Portland
All were made by Jin Caldwell, an award-winning chocolatier. #jinjupatisserie Since I’m savoring just one a day, I’ll update as I eat. 1.The Matcha Tea had a gentle, true matcha flavor. It’s organic Japanese Matcha powder & jasmine tea blended with local cream & white chocolate. 2. Lavender is made with dark milk chocolate ganache infused with local lavender flower & honey. The chocolate was rich & smooth. It definitely tasted of lavender & had a little sharpness to it, maybe from fresh lavender?! 3.Yuzu Lime has yuzu purée from Korea/Japan, infused with lime zest blended with Valrhona white chocolate. True lime flavor with a touch of yuzu brightness coming through the delicate creamy white chocolate. Fin. 4. Citrus is lemon-infused white chocolate ganache blended with Limincello in a dark chocolate shell. So beautiful in flavor & texture. Yet another delicate bonbon. I taste the lemon & limoncello, which adds a little zip. I look forward to the yuzu lime, but am sad it’s the last one.😭
11th ORCHID
Cloudforest, Portland
Deep, rich 80% chocolate ending with sweet, smooth vanilla notes from the vanilla orchid. Ingredients from Ecuador. A satisfying, beautiful experience. Really!
12th DOUBLE DARK GANACHE
Nunu Chocolates, New York
Intense dark chocolate with a beautiful soft center ganache. A combination of 65% & 53% dark chocolate. Such satisfying intensity in a small bite!
13th GOLDEN SOFT CARAMEL BUTTERFLY
Nunu Chocolates, New York
I wish the photo was clearer to show how pretty this butterfly was. When you bite into the creamy chocolate there’s a burst of gently honey-sweet golden caramel. What a sensual experience. So good.
14th VEGAN CHOCOLATE TRUFFLES
Missionary Chocolates, Portland
You would never know these are vegan! So far I had the anise truffle. It had an intense licorice flavor that I love in a chocolatey fudgy base. The others are vanilla salted caramel, local lavender & Meyer lemon explosion. Oh wow, that vanilla salted caramel is so rich & sensual. And now, whoa, the Meyer Lemon Explosion is just that! An explosion of tart & tangy. It seems like there’s peel in it. It’s all exaggerated by the salt. If you like intense lemon, this is it. (I expected a softer Meyer Lemon flavor.) Stay tuned for the lavender description! Self control is a virtue. 😉... So, I got to the lavender. It seems to have a slight tang, but also a pleasant lavender flavor. #missionarychocolates
15th OLO CHOCOLATE
Cloudforest, Portland
The cardamom & bergamot scent mingled with the dark chocolate is soft & floral, yet dark & rich. I guess that describes the flavor, as well. It is a collaboration between the chocolate maker & a local perfumery! A truly sensual experience.
16th EISNER BROTHERS BREWING HEFEWEIZEN TRUFFLE
Moonstruck Chocolate Cafe, Portland
Widmer Brothers Brewing Hefeweizen Beer reduction mixed with an ivory & dark chocolate ganache in a dark chocolate shell. A bright yeasty lemony flavor commingling with the ivory & dark chocolate is such a pleasure!
17th GRAND CRU NOIR
Läderach, New York
Ooh, fancy! Swipe to see this smooth creamy 70% Swiss chocolate bar with layers of flavor that emerge gradually for quite a while as you let the first bite melt on your tongue. The cacao is from Ecuador, one of my favorites for chocolate!
18th ARRIBA CACAO
Economy Candy, New York
A deep, rich, roasted flavor. It’s 71% cacao from Ecuador made by Goodio. It’s stone-ground in Helsinki! It is raw, organic & vegan, to boot. And it’s not $100! They describe it as sophisticated, rich & complex. Yes!
19th SOMA PINEAPPLE COCONUT WHITE CHOCOLATE
Cocoa Store, New York
Such an intense, tangy pineapple flavor! Soma says they use a ridiculous amount of pineapples in this white chocolate! Pineapple with coconut white chocolate is a great match!
REALLY GOOD
20th GREEN SHISO PEACH CHOCOLATE
Raaka Chocolate, New York
This chocolate is so fine with its subtle herbaceous shiso leaf flavor over a a background of sweet peach peaking through! A gourmet creation! #raaka
21st GOODIO COFFEE CHOCOLATE
Economy Candy, New York
Swipe to see the chocolate. Nicely intense espresso, which intensity I noticed towards the end of the bite, blended with fine chocolate & cashews for creaminess. Great find. Goes well with a cup of coffee!
22nd ROSE CARDAMOM CHOCOLATE
Raaka Chocolate, New York
Just received my new Raaka collection and first, let me say, both the new box art & the Botanical collection art are so pretty! The bars are all interesting & good, but Rose Cardamom is my favorite of the three. The Tanzanian chocolate really does have a rose flavor balanced by cardamom earthiness. No wonder it’s in the regular Raaka rotation! Swipe for the rose closeup.
23rd JACK O LANTERN DARK CHOCOLATE
Ebb & Flow Bakery, New York
Once again I was seduced by the cuteness factor! But wow, that dark chocolate is deep, bright & flavorful! Made by a master chocolatier.
24th DATE SAFFRON & POMEGRANATE ORANGE CHOCOLATE
Raaka Chocolate, New York
The Date Saffron had a creamy tangy flavor that I really like. The Pomegranate Orange was also tangy with a citrus touch. Very imaginative, good, & no added sugar! I hope you can read the small, cut off writing that describes both on the next photo!
25th BLACK SESAME CHOCOLATE
Raaka Chocolate, New York
Vegan coconut white chocolate blended with whole black sesame seeds. It’s creamy, nutty & both sweet & savory! I love it! It’s too easy to eat.
26th PINK MAGIC
Raaka Chocolate, New York
Sweet & creamy! It’s white chocolate mixed with pitaya (dragon fruit). It’s too easy to eat & so pretty in pink!💕
27th LOVE PARK
marcie blaine, Philadelphia
Loved Love Park! Sorry, I ate the 'O' & 'E' before I remembered to snap it! The 'O' was a heart. So delicious! My favorite so far. The smooth, flavorful chocolate & fresh bright raspberry ganache was a great combination! Only one more of the 4-piece collection left. Sob.
28th JAPAN SEA SALT CHOCOLATE BAR
Ranger Chocolate Company, Portland
Japanese Hana Flake Sea Salt paired with cacao from Semuliki Forest in Uganda. Ranger chocolate is always rich & lush & interesting. Although this is not my favorite of Ranger, it is a very good quality chocolate. And the packaging is beautiful! I might have to frame it! 😆
29th TEA CARAMELS
Alma Chocolate, Portland
There are 3 different kinds of Steven Smith tea-infused chocolate caramels. 1.Smoked Assam- whew! Very smokey. It’s great combined with the very good Alma chocolate & caramel. This would be so good with a cup of strong tea! 2.Lord Bergamot - an intense bergamot flavor. Another good one with a cup of tea; Earl Grey this time. 3. Masala Chai (To be tasted)
