PRETTY GOOD
1st CHICKEN KATSU CURRY ON RICE
Curry House CoCo Ichibanya, London
Finally Coco Ichibanya has arrived London, it has been a long wait. If you have never heard of it, it is a Japanese curry rice restaurant chain which started 40 years ago in Nagoya, Japan. Have never had a chance to try the ones in Japan but did manage to go to one in Hong Kong few years ago and I recall the curry was delicious. First impression in their London restaurant is that it is quite expensive, £12-14 on average per curry rice dish. It allows you to customize things like spice level and amount of rice (for example £1 for extra 150g of rice). I opt for one of their signature curry dishes, CHICKEN KATSU OMELETTE CURRY which comes with chicken katsu curry with omurice (omelette wrapped with rice). Chicken katsu is crispy and huge in size but I find the omelette bland and the curry is nowhere near rich enough. Still early days I guess and I wouldn’t rush to go, especially when there are long queues in this weather. Perhaps keep an eye on it after a while once the hype has gone down and hopefully they would have made some adjustments by then.
