AMAZING
1st CHICKEN PAITAN
Kanada-Ya, London
A very subtle, chicken-bone broth ramen that is not spicy at all... just suuuuuper smooth and full of not too in your face umami. Look at all that schmaltz (delicious chicken fat!). What I love MOST about this particular ramen is the noodles... they are more squiggly than Kanada-ya’s standard straight ramen noodle, and have more kansui, for a much springier noodle. Love it!
2nd TOBANJAN RAMEN
Yamagoya, London
Since moving to The Cut from Shaftesbury Avenue, Yamagoya has improved 1,000x. DELICIOUS. This one is spicy, porky, but without the overly heavy film of oil that ramen-yas in London seem to be doing more and more of these days. LOVED IT!
3rd TSUKEMEN
Sanpoutei Ramen, Shaw House, Singapore
This dipping-style ramen was amaaaaazing. Rich broth, and near-perfect noodles... craving it again now!
4th SPICY YUZU
Kanada-Ya, London
Spicy...creamy... strong black pepper taste in this delectable ramen. Probably the best quality chashu in any London ramen right now! Absolutely excellent.
5th TONKOTSU X RAMEN
Kanada-Ya, London
One of the best offerings here
6th GUEST UDON/RAMEN
Sosharu, London
This is interesting... Base is more of a shio-style ramen, but sightly miso as well... Noodles are usually ramen but can be changed with a flattish udon (as was the case today). Still more of a ramen ramen than an udon, IMO. Either way, the cha-shu was amazing and overall dish was excellent!
7th T22 RAMEN
Bone Daddies Soho, London
As always - very good, but very rich!
REALLY GOOD
8th YUZU RAMEN
Yamagoya, London
I have to admit - this did not impress me as much as I was hoping it would. It was nice - the egg was good, the chashu was good... but overall, something was missing. Now, I’m not the sort of person who thinks ramen should always be rich and salty - on the contrary, simple if often best - but this was just slightly above average for me, tbh. 🍜
9th TOFU MISO RAMEN
Yamagoya, London
This one is very very good - just wasn't anything that mind blowing. If you are a vegetarian, you will love this. Subtle, clean tasting. A little bit of extra fat to offset the lack of animal protein. Yummy!
