AMAZING
1st MINI SANMI DON
Ichiro Sushi Bar @ Eat Paradise, Petaling Jaya
Ikura, uni and negitoro don. This place never disappoints me. Also, I guess it’s only fitting that my last post on Foodspotting becomes my first post here.
2nd UNI, IKURA AND SALMON DON
Ichiro Sushi Bar @ Eat Paradise, Petaling Jaya
This chef is sneaky... He makes it seem like there isn't much uni but there's actually a lot. I was close to the point where it almost got too rich because of the generous amount of uni and ikura. Almost. But not quite ;-) . Still one of my favourite places for Japanese food.
4th KAISEN DON
Ichiro Sushi Bar @ Eat Paradise, Petaling Jaya
Rice bowl with assorted sashimi and sushi items. There were 10 different types of deliciousness in that bowl! Tamago, tako, aji, ikura, hotate, hamachi, sake, ebi, maguro and ika. All fresh and good, as expected from this place.
5th OTORO NIGIRI
Ichiro Sushi Bar @ Eat Paradise, Petaling Jaya
Fatty pieces of tuna belly that melts in your mouth. M-E-L-T-S !
7th KAISEN BARA CHIRASHI
Ichiro Sushi Bar @ Eat Paradise, Petaling Jaya
When you can't decide what rice bowl you want, go for a chirashi. This one had sake, maguro, kampachi, tako, ikura, tobiko, tamago... Topped up with the one lonely ebi. Fresh as always.
10th SEA ROBIN NIGIRI
Ichiro Sushi Bar @ Eat Paradise, Petaling Jaya
Head chef's recommendation as now is the best season for sea robins. This had a clean taste, with slightly firm flesh. Quite like this one.
11th TEKKA DON
Bonbori Cuisine Sdn Bhd, Puchong
Tuna rice bowl. So, so simple but that was all I needed. I am a terrible dining companion when it comes to Japanese food. I get far too engrossed in my food and ignore everyone and everything else.
12th SHAKE DON
Bonbori Cuisine Sdn Bhd, Puchong
Salmon and salmon roe on sushi rice. Let the picture speak for itself.
13th NAMA HOTATE SUSHI
Bonbori Cuisine Sdn Bhd, Puchong
Fresh scallop sushi. So sweet and lush. Bring more please.
PRETTY GOOD
14th CHIRASHI SUSHI
Ume Tei Japanese Restaurant, Petaling Jaya
Assorted sashimi on seasoned rice. Not exactly the best premium cuts, but still very fresh seafood. This was such a healthy portion of seafood I had to dig deep to get to the rice. Good value for money.
16th INARI TAMAGO MENTAI
Sushi Mentai @ Taman Megah, PJ, Petaling Jaya
Also another item I reach for regularly. Sushi Mentai is one of those places we head to when we just want a quick sushi fix. It’s not mind-blowing, but you can be in and out in less than 30 minutes and spend less than RM50 for 2 persons.
17th SALMON MENTAI
Sushi Mentai, Petaling Jaya
For RM2.80 a plate, I thought this was quite nice. I usually shy away from raw fish when we dine at conveyor belt budget sushi restaurants but we had this made to order. Handy tip - go later in the evenings, around 8pm or so when the conveyor belt is almost empty and order off the menu.
18th TAMAGO MENTAI
Sushi Mentai, Petaling Jaya
Cheap (RM1.80 per plate for yellow plates) and adequately decent enough for us to eat here occasionally. We’ve tried several branches and the SS2 one seems to be slightly better. Our favourite branch is still the one in Bandar Puteri, but this is good enough for when we are in the area.
19th TAMAGO
Sushi Mentai, Petaling Jaya
With some torched cheese sauce on top I believe. Tamago sushi is usually the first item I grab off the belt. I don’t know why I like it so much, I just do 🤣.
20th ABALONE MENTAI SUSHI
Sushi Hiro SS2, Petaling Jaya
Budget sushi at RM2.90. I’m a little ashamed to admit that I really did enjoy this 🙈.
JUST OK
21st CHIRASHI DON
Sushi Tei @ 3 Damansara, Petaling Jaya
If they’d made those slices of seafood any thinner it would have been translucent.
22nd INARI SALMON MENTAI MAYO
Sushi Mentai, Petaling Jaya
Decent enough. I usually try not to take any raw fish at conveyor belt budget sushi joints. You really do get what you pay for.
NOT FOR ME
23rd SHIRO MAGURO MENTAI
Tokyo Kitchen @ Citta Mall, Petaling Jaya
Butter fish roasted with cod roe. All I tasted was rice and mayo.
