REALLY GOOD
1st MUSHROOMS AND BASIL PESTO PANUOZZO SANDWICH
Round Pizza Napoletana, Petaling Jaya
With provolone, Sarawak black pepper and a generous splash of EVOO. So simple but so delicious. This has been on repeat during our subsequent visits. Great sandwich!
2nd TRUFFLE UNAGI
Christine's Bakery, Petaling Jaya
Truffle-infused unagi kabayaki, cucumber cream cheese, omelette. We opted for sourdough bread for this instead of their popular bagel just to have a variety. There’s so much going on here, every bite was a party on your senses!
3rd CROISSANT WITH PULLED SALMON
Yin's Sourdough Bakery and Cafe, Petaling Jaya
Wow. Wow wow wow wow wow. This was really interesting. They were out of croissant so they replaced it multiseed bread. What made this stand out was the pickled duck egg relish in that sandwich. It’s salty, slightly pungent maybe? Perhaps borderline funky... but wow I really liked it! Combine that with the salmon and some chopped red shallots and you’ll get a flavour-packed meal that’s not easily forgettable. To me at least... 😁
4th BAK KWA BUN
Toast Bar, Petaling Jaya
My word, this was so fantastically good! There’s so much going on in that little sandwich, from the sweet-savoury bak kwa, salty pork floss, fluffy scrambled eggs and that refreshing crunch from the sliced Japanese cucumbers. All sandwiched between their soft, buttery brioche and topped off with their homemade mayo and chilli sauce. It’s a party in my mouth and I want more!
5th JUSTIN TIMBERLEGG
WhupWhup Restaurant & Cafe, Subang Jaya
“Toasted sourdough bread, marinated buttermilk chicken, two poached eggs, duck bacon and spicy hollandaise to Rock Your Body!” There is a lot going on here but it worked for me. I liked this a lot!
PRETTY GOOD
6th THE MVP
Toast Bar, Petaling Jaya
Scrambled egg, ham, bacon, cheese and cabbage on super fluffy soft brioche. It’s a messy but delicious affair. I need to add though, that the meat ends somewhere around the first third of the sandwich, then it’s just egg and towards the end it’s cabbage. I don’t quite mind it because that way you don’t get things spilling out of your sandwich as you reach the end but some people might feel a little cheated 😄.
7th YOU HAD ME AT HALLOUMI
Plan B (Mid Valley), Kuala Lumpur
“Pan seared halloumi cheese, avocado, sautéed kale, grilled tomatoes, Turkish ciabatta toast.” This would have gotten a much higher ranking if not for the following - 1. The halloumi pieces were really small and thin. A tad overfried as well. 2. There was no kale. Just baby spinach. 3. Tomatoes weren’t grilled. Having said that, it really isn’t bad at all. And the sweet potato crisps that came with this were really good. Just a little misleading in the description. I haz a sad.
8th POPPO SAMBAL BURGER
Poppo Kanteen Puchong, Puchong
Essentially an egg sandwich with julienned cucumber and A LOT of sambal. This isn’t a bad snack, but the amount of sambal was just too much for us to handle. Best to scrap some away if you can’t handle the heat.
