REALLY GOOD
1st PINEAPPLE BASIL SORBET
Waka Waka Gelato, Petaling Jaya
Very good, with the perfect balance of the pineapple and the basil. Tart and refreshing! One thing to note, there are fibres from the fruit in the sorbet so if you don’t like that, then best to get another flavour.
2nd HAPPY HOUR
Roast Factor Glee, Petaling Jaya
Had this at the recently concluded Coffee Fest but was informed that they carry these flavours at their cafe as well. Happy Hour is a duo of Hoppy Craft Beer and Dark Ale. The beer had a more ‘sunshiney’ flavour with some honey notes while the ale was darker and a little more complex. It was suggested that we mix both flavours together which we happily did, resulting in a combination that brought out the best of both flavours.
3rd SALTED CARAMEL GELATO
Waka Waka Gelato, Petaling Jaya
Ugh. So smooth and lush. Perfect level of saltiness with a little hint of bitter to contrast with the sweetness. Lovely.
4th RICE, RICE BABY
Inside Scoop Damansara Jaya, Petaling Jaya
milk • genmai • eggs • blue agave syrup • organic unrefined sugar Wowww. This. Was. So. Good. Nice, gentle genmai flavour that really makes you want to keep digging your cup for more. Love it!
5th WHITE RABBIT
Inside Scoop Damansara Jaya, Petaling Jaya
Ermahgerd. White Rabbit Candy. Which Asian kid did not eat this while growing up? I used to obsess over this milky chewy candy when I was a kid. So when Inside Scoop announced that they were going to release a White Rabbit Candy ice cream I knew I had to try it. I had to queue for maybe 20 minutes but it was worth it. This really did taste like the candy from my childhood. And it’s probably my imagination, but I thought the texture of the ice cream was slightly chewy to mimic the original candy. The bad news is this is a limited time only release. I read that only 100 scoops were available at each of their outlets. But who knows... they might just bring it back, seeing how successful it was tonight.
6th CRUNCHY COFFEE WHISKY
The Ice Cream Bar Seapark, Petaling Jaya
Not quite as boozy as I would have wished for, but still very good. Love those crunchy bits which were a lovely contrast to the smooth ice cream.
7th SPICE GIRLS
Waka Waka Gelato, Petaling Jaya
Light pumpkin spice with honey mustard crumbs. “Shockingly nice”, according to their description. I liked this a lot. Sweet and savoury, creamy and crunchy. Should have bought a pint home.
8th EARL GREY GELATO
Waka Waka Gelato, Petaling Jaya
Third time here this week alone. To say that we’re hooked on this shop would be an understatement. Their earl grey gelato is another favourite. Not too sweet, not too bitter, not too milky.
9th EARL GREY CREAM CHEESE, DARK CHOCOLATE
Everton Creamery, Singapore
Our favourite cup of the day. The Earl Grey was delicious, and the Dark Chocolate reminded us of how the Hei ice cream from Awfully Chocolate used to be.
10th NENAS GULA MELAKA
冰淇淋 Hail's Dessert Cafe, Petaling Jaya
Palm sugar soft serve on a toasted pineapple. Simple, but the flavours go great together. Toasting the pineapple really brought out the natural sweetness of the fruit! Available for a limited time only to celebrate Hari Merdeka (Independence Day). #KitaPunyaMalaysia #SayangiMalaysiaku
11th MUSANG KING ICE CREAM
Inside Scoop Damansara Jaya, Petaling Jaya
Inside Scoop went a little crazy and had 4 different types of durian ice cream. D24 is next on my list!
12th CEMPEDAK ICE CREAM
Inside Scoop Damansara Jaya, Petaling Jaya
Love love love! Especially love the little cempedak bits!!!
14th HOKKAIDO MELON SOFUTO
FamilyMart Paradigm Mall, Petaling Jaya
When this flavour was first launched in Malaysia last year it sold out in about a week. The cheesecake still remains my favourite sofuto at FamilyMart, but the melon does come close. Also, how perfect is that swirl? 🍦
15th HAKUTO WHITE PEACH SOFUTO
FamilyMart Bandar Puteri Puchong, Puchong
I loooooove this flavour. Love love love! That delicious, delicate flavour of a juicy peach on a hot day... I wish I could eat this everyday!
16th NESTUM CHOCOLATE MCFLURRY
McDonald's Bandar Puteri Puchong DT, Selangor
Ok MekDi. You did it. You finally came up with something that I would want to order again. The fact that Nestum will always remind me of my childhood doesn’t hurt either.
17th MANGO LASSI WITH MURUKKU TOPPING
Waka Waka Gelato, Petaling Jaya
Deepavali flavour available for this week! It’s so fun, like dipping your fries into your milkshake. Only crunchier, and with gelato instead of milkshake 😁.
18th CHAMOMILE HONEY SORBET
Waka Waka Gelato, Petaling Jaya
This was so calming and peaceful. Silly that a sorbet would make one feel like that, but I can’t seem to find a better way to describe it. Maybe we’ve been drinking chamomile wrong all this time. Maybe we shouldn’t even be drinking it and we should be licking it off a spoon instead. Maybe.
19th LAVENDER WHITE CHOCOLATE
Hatter Street (Kovan), Singapore
Lavender ice cream with white chocolate bits. Because... purple. Fortunately this was quite good. Not too sweet, and not at all potpourri-ish. I liked it!
20th MADAGASCAR ASH
Crème De La Crème - CDLC, Petaling Jaya
Made with high quality Madagascar vanilla beans and premium charcoal powder with no added sugar. Instead, maltitol is used to sweeten this slightly. Supposedly rich in antioxidants and has detoxifying and immunity boosting properties. I mean... dude... it’s ice cream... you don’t need to sell me ice cream by using health talk 🙈. Having said that, this did taste pretty good. And also, I’m a little obsessed with how the ice cream matches their interior.
21st MANGO LASSI ICE CREAM
Inside Scoop Damansara Jaya, Petaling Jaya
Ooooooh, I quite like this. It’s like a frozen, slightly milkier, less yoghurt-y version of mango lassi. Not bad at all!
22nd BUTTERSCOTCH BISCOTTO
Everton Creamery, Singapore
Nice balance of salty and sweet. Everton Creamery does good ice cream, but perhaps their flavours are a little on the safe side. Worth a visit if you are in the area, but not really necessary to make a journey there for their ice cream.
23rd UNICORN
Crème De La Crème - CDLC, Petaling Jaya
“Madagascar vanilla ice cream, lychee and raspberry sorbet, white chocolate dip and crispy meringues” Loved the sweet and tart combo of the ice cream and sorbet! At RM22, it’s a little pricey though.
24th COCONUT ICE CREAM
Chatuchak Weekend Market, Krung Thep Maha Nakhon
With sticky rice, glass jelly, nuts, coconut flesh... Like eating frozen coconut milk.
25th MANGO DREAM
Chatuchak Weekend Market, Krung Thep Maha Nakhon
Mango ice cream, sticky rice and cashew nuts with a drizzle of coconut cream. Eat. Just eat. Don't ask questions.
PRETTY GOOD
26th BLACK FOREST | GUINNESS CHOC BROWNIES
The Ice Cream Bar Seapark, Petaling Jaya
Both nice flavours, but of the two I preferred the Guinness Choc Brownies which had a bolder flavour. Wish they were boozier though. A bit more boozier. Maybe a lot more boozier. Ok waaaaaay more boozier. Did I mention I wish they were boozier? Yeah. Boozier.
27th DULCE DE CAFE LECHE
FROZEN Paradigm Mall, Petaling Jaya
Pleasant enough to be enjoyed. Reminded me of Nescafé.
28th CHEESECAKE ICE CREAM
McDonald's Bandar Puteri Puchong DT, Selangor
We tried the Cheesecake & Vanilla Cone and the Strawberry Cheesecake Sundae (2nd pic). McD’s version of the cheesecake soft serve is milder in flavour as compared to Family Mart’s Cheesecake Sofuto. I think when it comes to ice cream flavours at McD’s, vanilla still tops the rest.
29th STRAWBERRY SOFUTO
FamilyMart Oasis Ara Damansara, Petaling Jaya
This was ok, but I found the flavour a little mild. At least it didn’t have that sickly sweet artificial strawberry flavouring 😆.
30th HIBISCUS LEMON SWIRL
FROZEN Paradigm Mall, Petaling Jaya
Flavourwise, I really loved this one. However there was something about the texture that I didn’t enjoy too much, a little crumbly. It did get better as the ice cream melted down a bit but who can wait when there’s ice cream in front of your face? 😆
