AMAZING
1st LOVE IN PROVENCE
Thirdwave Cafe, Kuala Lumpur
Lavender honey chicken breast, beetroot and whole grain barley risotto, balsamic reduction. This was absolutely love at first bite. That chicken was just amazing, with a light scent of lavender and the sweetness of honey. Went perfectly with the barley risotto. Schmazeballs.
2nd HAINANESE CHICKEN CHOP
Cafe Campbell Rd, Petaling Jaya
The star of the night. This one made me overeat #sorrynotsorry. Chicken batter was crispy and the sauce had the right balance of savoury/sweet/tanginess. Most importantly, that piece of chicken was drowned in that crazy good sauce, just like how mamma makes it. The Hainanese part of me definitely approves.
REALLY GOOD
3rd GUANG XI STYLE CHICKEN
Lala Chong Kayu Ara Seafood Restaurant, Petaling Jaya
Do not be fooled by how simple this dish may look. The chicken by itself was already very good. Top it with loads of fragrant, crispy garlic oil and that kicks it up a few more notches. But there’s more… this also comes with a very good ginger scallion sauce. It’s complex and addictive and yes, it makes you eat more than what you would usually do.
4th UFO CHEESE FONDUE
GOOBNE CITTA Mall, Petaling Jaya
Oh. My. Goobne. Crispy oven roasted chicken coated in molten cheese. Insane. We picked boneless thigh for this instead of wings. Much easier to eat. You get to pick 2 flavours for this and we picked Pepper Crispy and Fruity Soy Garlic. Both good.
6th KAI PAD KRA PRAO
Alissara Restaurant, Puchong
Spicy Thai basil chicken. Just give me this, add a fried egg and some white rice and I’ll be happy. We have not dined here for more than a year and it’s great to see that the food is still as good. Friendly service and reasonable prices keeps us coming back for more too!
7th HONEY MILK CLAYPOT CHICKEN
Restoran Hua Xing, Petaling Jaya
This tasted almost like honey soy Korean fried chicken. Loved that the chicken pieces were still crispy even though they were coated with that lovely, sticky, sweet sauce. Good stuff!
8th GRILLED CHICKEN AVOCADO
Nara Kitchen & Co., Petaling Jaya
Avocado, grilled chicken tossed in a mildly spicy dressing, arugula and melted mozzarella on a multigrain toast. Served with a homemade spiced tomato salsa and vegetable chips. Not a bad dish at all.
9th GINSENG HERBAL KAMPONG CHICKEN
Dian Xiao Er (NEX), Singapore
Tastes a lot better than it looks. Especially if you enjoy the taste of Chinese herbs. The red dates and wolfberries give this dish a hint of sweetness which helps to balance out the slight bitterness of the ginseng.
10th PAN SEAR CAJUN CHICKEN
Vary Pasta, Petaling Jaya
Super old-school western style restaurant that has been around for I think 14 years? No frills, no fancy ingredients or techniques. Just honest cooking.
11th THAI SWEET CHILI AND LEMONGRASS CHICKEN RICE BOWL
Moonkissed, Petaling Jaya
Got this to go and by the time we got home and settled down to eat, 30 minutes had passed. And yet, this was still absolutely delicious. All the vegetables were still fresh and crisp, no soggy, sad bits at all! Chicken was super yums too. Looking forward to dining there one day.
PRETTY GOOD
13th MARMITE CHICKEN RICE
Restaurant Sing Kee Wong, Petaling Jaya
Fried chicken pieces in a sweet-salty marmite sauce. Slightly sticky like honey and so tasty. Just wish it was boneless chicken instead because I'm lazy 😜.
14th THAI MINCE BASIL CHICKEN
AROI THAI @ UTROPOLIS, Petaling Jaya
Tasted better than it looks. This definitely needed some colour. It’s way too pale. This place used to be a lot better.
JUST OK
16th CHEESE RING DAKGALBI
Mr.Dakgalbi - Citta Mall, Petaling Jaya
The dakgalbi itself was tasty, but that cheese ring... aiyaiyai... we’re pretty certain there’s something else mixed into it. Instant mashed potato mix perhaps? Hard pass on the cheese. I’ve had this a few years ago and it wasn’t like this. Sad to see that standards have dropped tremendously. Portions have gone smaller as well.
