REALLY GOOD
1st CHAR KWAY TEOW
Say Huat Restaurant, Petaling Jaya
The famous Robert's CKT. It may not be as good as the best ones in Penang, but this will do for when my CKT craving kicks in. Definitely one of the better ones in KL/PJ.
2nd CHAR KWAY TEOW
SS2 Chow Yang Kopitiam 志昇茶餐室, Petaling Jaya
I have to admit, I was a little apprehensive about ordering this as there was a sign above the stall that said “NO PORK”. Turns out this was actually quite good for a pork-free version of CKT. Good wok hei and just the right touch of spiciness made this rather enjoyable.
3rd FRIED KUEY TEOW + CHINESE SAUSAGE
Goreng Kuey Teow Tong Shin 一品香, Puchong
It’s a fairly decent CKT that I would reorder if I was in the area. Good wok hei!
4th CHAR KWAY TEOW
Tay Kah Seafood Restaurant, Puchong
Pretty decent CKT with good wok hei. Not the best I’ve had but the Uncle that fries the CKT does this cute little jig when he’s cooking. I don’t think it’s intentional, but it’s entertaining nonetheless 😁.
PRETTY GOOD
5th CKT WITH CRAB MEAT
Authentic Penang Char Koay Teow, Petaling Jaya
Decent char kway teow. Crab meat was rather unnecessary as I felt it didn’t really do much for the CKT except to inflate the price.
6th CHAR KWAY TEOW
Restoran Big Family, Puchong
Decent enough CKT. The take out container was lined with a piece of banana leaf for added aroma. Nice touch. I did find myself wishing there were more chives, but chives are pretty hard to come by these days.
7th CHAR KWAY TEOW
Restaurant Station 8, Petaling Jaya
Known as the “famous” James Bond CKT. Fairly decent with a touch of wok hei. What sets this particular CKT apart from most is the large prawns that come with it. Take note that this guy can be rather grumpy at times and sometimes his helper fries the noodles instead of him.
8th CHAR KWAY TEOW
Kens Brothers Restaurant, Puchong
Pretty decent in terms of taste, but it does need a bit more char and wok hei.
9th PENANG CHAR KUEY TEOW
Restoran WBL Penang忘不了, Subang Jaya
Not bad for KL standard. Penang lang might disagree though.
JUST OK
10th CHAR KUAY TEOW (BASAH)
Leleh IOI Mall Puchong, Puchong
Ok first off, I’m really sorry y’all. I tried really hard but there is no way I can make this not look like something the dog threw up 😅😂. Taste-wise, it’s actually not bad. It’s spicy so that’s a good thing. But it’s also a little too salty for me. I don’t think it’s worth paying RM9.90 for this 😓.
