REALLY GOOD
1st ROASTED BROWN SUGAR PEARL FRESH MILK
Daboba IOI Mall Puchong, Puchong
Current obsession. This one has fresh milk, warm brown sugar pearls and a creamy foam which is topped with brown sugar and torched. There’s just something about this that I can’t resist. The foam is lightly salted, so when it’s mixed with the brown sugar you get something similar to a salted caramel flavour. The torched sugar adds a hint of smokiness and a nice crunchy-ish texture. Great contrast with the soft and chewy pearls. I am well and truly addicted. Disclaimer - Some branches actually make this better than the others. The SS2 branch is the best so far.
PRETTY GOOD
2nd BROWN SUGAR BUBBLE MILK
Moge Tee Malaysia, Petaling Jaya
Ok this was really good. The pearls were cooked well and had the perfect texture. I enjoyed this a lot. However, there have been reviews saying that the pearls were hard and overly chewy. Some inconsistency issues definitely.
3rd PURPLE SWEET POTATO BUBBLE MILK SHAKE
Moge Tee Malaysia, Petaling Jaya
So I ordered this expecting a drink made with sweet potato powder. Instead, what I got was a drink with milk and thick sweet potato paste. I have to admit it was a bit weird at first but the more I had of it the more I enjoyed it. It is mighty filling though, so it’s probably not a good idea to order this after you’ve had a heavy meal 😅.
4th EARL GREY BOBA
Crème De La Crème - CDLC, Petaling Jaya
Fresh milk, earl grey ice cream, caramelized brown sugar and golden pearls. It’s delicious but I gotta dock points for the small portion. That earl grey ice cream is really good though.
5th NISHIO MATCHA WITH WARM PEARLS
Tealive Tesco Puchong, Puchong
I like this 😁! Also, kudos to TeaLive for using paper straws. Even though it gets soft really quickly and it makes it hard for me to get to my pearls but that’s ok 😂.
JUST OK
6th BANG BANG MILK TEA WITH BROWN SUGAR WARM PEARLS
Tealive IOI Mall Puchong, Puchong
There was a time when I was absolutely hooked on TeaLive. But that was before there were 102 Bubble Tea brands in Malaysia (as of 4 December 2019, according to bubbleteamalaysia.com). There are better milk teas out there but Tealive is one of the easiest to find with outlets virtually everywhere.
7th BROWN SUGAR FRESH MILK WITH PEARL
Gong Cha IOI Mall Puchong, Puchong
This one disappointed me a little. The brown sugar was just missing the rich, dark aroma that some other brands had. Also, the pearls are smaller thus making them harder to get to. I blame Lee Seung Gi for my decision to come here 😜.
8th HOJICHA MILK TEA WITH PEARL & BROWN SUGAR
Sukiya @ Food Street, IOI Mall, Puchong
I feel like they’re just adding this to their menu to jump on the bubble tea wagon. It’s not bad, and reasonably priced but it’s really sweet. Ask for less sugar if you intend to order this.
