REALLY GOOD
1st SOURDOUGH N SPREAD
Red Kettle @ Starling Mall, Petaling Jaya
Topped up extra for marmite butter. A bit pricy for 2 slices of bread but no regrets. This is very VERY good sourdough.
2nd CARAMELIZED ONION AND ANCHOVIES SOURDOUGH
MadHatter Desserts, Petaling Jaya
Just about the only place we go to for bread when we take a break from baking our own. This one in particular is one of our favourites. That combination of sweet caramelized onions and salty anchovies with the pleasantly tangy bread is highly addictive!
3rd CHANA BHATURA
The Ganga Café @ Sea Park, Petaling Jaya
“A Punjabi breakfast favourite; A deep fried, fluffy, puffed bread, served with spicy white chickpeas” At first I was a little hesitant about those raw onions on the side, but it turns out they were a great addition to the chickpeas and yogurt. Everything just went together so well with the bread. I’m definitely having this again!
4th POORI
Rathas Curry House, Puchong
Despite it being deep fried, the poori here is neither greasy nor heavy. Instead it is light and fluffy and it’s made to order. This comes with a generous serving of potato masala as well, unlike some other places which offer just a tablespoonful.
PRETTY GOOD
5th SEEDED SOURDOUGH
Universal Bakehouse, Petaling Jaya
Made with a seed mix of poppy, sunflower, sesame, flax, pumpkin and caraway. Not a seed fan, but I felt like having sourdough and our starter is in hibernation mode so we decided to get this anyway. It’s good with some salted butter.
6th POORI
Appu Uncle Curry House, Petaling Jaya
Unleavened deep-fried bread, usually served with potato masala. Appu Uncle makes a nice poori, fried only when you order. It’s not too greasy and it’s delicious with their potato masala. Great breakfast item!
7th ROOFTOP PRINCE BREAD
La Boheme Mid Valley, Kuala Lumpur
Got this because I was tickled by the Rooftop Prince reference. Made with immunity boosting ingredients such as ginger, lemon, honey and turmeric. Wasn’t half bad at all!
8th SWEDISH KNOTS
Homebaker@Clover Kinrara, Puchong
Pretty decent treats. They’re much better if you warm them up but they’re not as good as the ones we baked. It’s a compromise for being lazy I suppose 😂.
9th BREADSTICKS
Olive Garden Italian Kitchen, Kuala Lumpur
Curiosity got the better of us so here we are at Olive Garden. I have to say, service was excellent! Our server was attentive and yet unobtrusive despite it being a busy Sunday night. Thank you, Janu! The breadsticks? It's ok. Nice for dipping into soup.
10th PANAMERICANA SOURDOUGH
Panamericana, Sentosa Golf Club
La Plaquette butter, citrus salt, arbequina olive oil. Loved the butter and the olive oil more than the bread.
