AMAZING
1st TOFFEE VANILLA CHOUX PUFF
Lorraine's Patisserie, Sydney
The toffee stuff on top gives it a lovely crunch that made me fall in love with this. The middle part is fresh cream to add to the melt in your mouth softness. I need more of this in my life!
2nd KOUIGN AMANN
Grace Patisserie, Wellington
I think Kouign Amann should have its own category because I struggle to compare this with other pastries 🤔 I’m glad the chef/owner has been convinced to make some. They’re so good! Crispy on the outside and chewy yumminess in the middle. $3.20 each and it was small at about 5-6cm in diameter.
3rd ASSORTED PASTRIES
Sugar Flour, New Zealand
6 kouign amman, cherry tart, tamarillo tart and onion pecorino something. The best pastry shop in Wellington!
4th ASSORTED PASTRIES
Grace Patisserie, Wellington
I have tried all 4 in the first photo and they’re all delicious! The yellow one is Sylvie (on a different post), the red one is Mel (basil, rhubarb and raspberry), the green one is Tee, and the one on the right is Jie. I asked if the chef would make kouign amman but she wasn’t keen and told me it had too much sugar. 😩
5th ASSORTED SWEETS
Emirates Lounge, Dubai
The different middle eastern sweets were so yummy!
6th MORNING BUN
The Larder, Wellington
I don’t think this is a cinnamon roll and I don’t know what is the right category. It’s crisp and flakey on the outside, soft and light inside. I love it! Oh I love the apple turnover too!
7th ASSORTED PASTRIES
The Larder, Wellington
My takeaway stash for today. The 23km drive at 8am is worth it!
11th SFOGLIATELLE
Saga, Enmore
Ricotta, blueberry and orange
PRETTY GOOD
16th KOUIGN AMANN
Sawamura Bakery & Restaurant, Shibuya City
It was nice enough but the texture wasn’t quite right for me. It also had frangipane in the middle.
NOT FOR ME
18th KOUIGN AMANN
Daily Bread, Auckland
This was disappointing. Dry and not enough sweetness, gooey stuff or crispy crunchy bits. I left most of it.
