AMAZING
1st "ONO" LOCO MOCO
The Butter House, Seaside
‍Seasoned ground beef patty topped with gravy and two eggs over white rice. Definitely the best loco Moco we've ever had! Amazing gravy and a perfect burger!!
2nd LOCO MOCO
King's Hawaiian Bakery & Restaurant, Torrance
Hamburger patty and fried eggs on top of white rice with gravy. Better than the one we got on the Big Island! Ask for extra gravy on the side.
REALLY GOOD
3rd LOCO MOCO
Bea Bea's, Burbank
Jasmine rice, a huge Burger patty, Fridays and gravy. The gravy was thicker than I usually have it but it had a good flavor. The burger was perfectly cooked to medium. They topped it with cilantro which was unusual and I didn't really love, but they were super accommodating and brought me some chopped green onions!
4th LOCO MOCO
Hungry Fox, Los Angeles
A Hawaiian breakfast favorite. Rice, gravy, burger patty and a fried egg. This was one of the better ones because of the thick, rich gravy. Not the best burger though. Needs more seasoning and it's been pressed down, so it's not loose and juicy.
PRETTY GOOD
6th MALAMA LOCO MOCO
Malama Pono Restaurant, Los Angeles
This was the dish that brought us here, but it was not the highlight. With a pork patty and porcini gravy. I thought the gravy was really good, but the burger was lost. I couldn't really tell when I had gotten some of it. Was it really thin or very loose? I don't know. It all just tasted like gravy.
7th LOCO MOCO
Bone Kettle, Pasadena
On their brunch menu. The burger has spam in it, which was fascinating to us... But we really couldn't discern it in the taste ☹️. The burger had a nice char and it was a decent dish. #dinela
8th LOCO MOCO
Q & Q Hawaiian B.B.Q, Los Angeles
Good flavor. Unfortunately, they overcooked the eggs. :-(
9th LOCO MOCO
Cici's Cafe, Los Angeles
Good rice and great burger (which is usually not the case with this dish at different restaurants), but the gravy was a mushroom gravy, not a brown gravy with mushrooms, so it didn't rank as high for me. I love mushrooms, but it just wasn't the rich flavor I was hoping for.
JUST OK
10th THE LOCO
The Old Town Junction, Santa Clarita
Prime beef patty, carnitas, chopped bacon, Jasmine rice, fried egg, kimchi, green onion and demi glace. Way too much going on in this. The carnitas and bacon did not add anything to the dish and were superfluous. there was not enough demi glace. I understand doing a different take on a loco moco but the gravy is a big part of what makes it so wonderful. The ground beef was pretty good. My husband thought it was too lean and not flavorful. I would have liked it a lot more if it was covered in the sauce.
