AMAZING
1st SALMON CEVICHE
Sam's Chowder House, Half Moon Bay
Off the daily specials menu - and Mr Carastian can only thank one of the many many MANY middle and South American line cooks, waiters, bus boys ... WHOEVER convinced them to put that on the menu: California king salmon, EVOO, lime and orange juice some grapefruit juice, hot chili, micro greens and kumquat wow!!!
2nd I'A MAKA NIU
Mama's Fish House, Paia
This fresh ono was marinated in coconut milk and tahitian lime, served in a 'teenaged coconut' (age based on our newly found coconut knowledge and evaluation of the jelly-like flesh). When the kitchen is throwing dishes like this at you, it's really hard to say what was the 'star' of the night. The whole meal was amazing from tip to tail.
REALLY GOOD
3rd BAJA SHRIMP CEVICHE

Mr. C started with this light dish. A nice balance between the lime and the heat of the chilies. the shrimp were a bit to mealy for his taste and the constancy overall a bit too thick. Nonetheless - taste wise a winner and apparently not gone bad as he lives to tell the tale - hence "loved it".
