REALLY GOOD
1st PINEAPPLE UPSIDE DOWN CAKE
Travaasa Hana, Maui, Hana
Hmmm Hmmm Hmmm. Puts Grandma's pineapple upside down cake to shame. TO SHAME, I TELL YA! Lovely with the fresh mango and chocolate ice cream because honestly... doesn't that sound good?!!!
2nd GUAVA CAKE
Royal Lahaina Resort, Lahaina
Sponge-y goo-y and super sweet. A nice treat but after all the kalua pig.... No room:-(
3rd HOLUNDERCREMETORTE
Cafe Heiss, Bad Aibling
The only thing to get Mrs. C to take a walk on a cold, wintery day is a cup of steaming hot chocolate and a slice of fresh, homemade cake from our favorite local cafe. A double layer of blueberry and elderberry mousse, with a spongy apricot crust and layer divider. Divine!
4th SCHOKOLADE-ESPRESSO-KUCHEN
Cafe Heiss, Bad Aibling
Mrs. Carastian - not a huge fan of Christmas flavors - opted for another cake. bunt cake as well, but this time with a chocolaty espresso cream swirled in.... taschty - and home made. of course.
5th GEWÜRZKUCHEN
Cafe Heiss, Bad Aibling
a wintery taste of Christmas... home made bunt cake, with red wine, chocolate, hazelnuts, cinnamon and all those lovely Christmas spices.. moist and soooooo good. Even for a "sweet enough" Mr. Carastian
6th ERDBEERROLLE
CafélotteBar, Bad Aibling
Ahh... nothing beats a fine afternoon of Mr. Carastian and little Carastian enjoying some time in a Cafe. With this light, beautifully made biscuit roll with strawberry cream (yes... still wondering where they had the berries from... but it is probably better not to ask). The second fork was put in by the überambitious waitress. She didn't know that little Carastian lives by the strict #NOSHARE rule when it comes to sweets.
7th VICTORIAN SPONGE CAKE
The Grand Café, Oxford
We had to experience the prestigious Grand Cafe (the oldest coffee house/cafe in ENGLAND - according to a diary from 1650) and sample the classic Victorian Sponge cake. They offer classic British tea (with tiny sandwiches and scones), a full board of sandwiches and light lunches as well as an impressive array of baked goods. But the full english high tea is to follow in London (stay tuned;-)) This cake was light, delicate and delish with lovely jam between the soft layers.
8th OBSTKUCHEN
CafélotteBar, Bad Aibling
Pie with cream layer, and topped with strawberries, melon, mango and other fine items that let you believe you are doing something healthy:-) and yes - although there is in general a #NOSHARING rule in place - it came with three forks. and yes, there is none open;-)
9th MYSTERY BOOZE CAKE
Althoff Seehotel Überfahrt, Rottach-Egern
Let Valentine's begin! With a mysterious little cake with a tasty crust outside and a rum flavored not too moist inside. Some beautiful marzipan rose petals on the top. Good beginning.
PRETTY GOOD
10th SCHWARZWÄLDERKIRSCHTÖRTCHEN
Café Tomaselli, Salzburg
A cold and rain day's adventure in Salzburg ended with this yummy treat at a very classic and famous cafe. Full of booze (just how Mrs. C likes it!) and layered with chocolate and cherries... this black forest torte was amazing. And served by a very traditional 'cake maiden' in the classic black outfit with white apron and hat who carries a tray of cakes and goodies around to each table, totally separate from the waiter who just handles beverages. A quaint experience!
