AMAZING
1st SQUID TENTACLES ADALUCIAN STYLE
Ciudad Condal, Barcelona
Deep fried squid with light breading and some spice to the batter. Amazing flavor, excellent crisp exterior, and perfectly tender squid. Absolutely a must.
REALLY GOOD
2nd PINCHOS DE TERNERA
Vino Wine & Tapas Room, Los Angeles
Filet on a skewer with a light drizzling of sauce, need I say more? I will definitely come back for this.
3rd CALAMARES FRITOS
Vino Wine & Tapas Room, Los Angeles
While perhaps not as tender as actual squid from Andalucia, this was still one of the best cooked calamari I've had. The breading was light and flavorful and I was pleasantly surprised by the sauce.
4th SQUID ANDALUSIAN STYLE
Cava Baja 17, Madrid
These were amazingly tender as have been all the squid dishes in Spain. The flaky breading was a little simple but salty and tasty and it paired well with the lemon.
5th CROQUETAS DE POLLO
Vino Wine & Tapas Room, Los Angeles
A really excellent croquet with a great crisp to the exterior.
6th CROQUETA DE JAMON Y QUESO
Mercado de La Boqueria, Barcelona
Crispy corn meal based exterior with melted cheese throughout layers of ham. Very satisfying.
7th PATATAS BRAVAS
Vino Wine & Tapas Room, Los Angeles
Very solid all around, I will get this when I come back.
8th MINI CROISSANT WITH HAM AND MOZZARELLA
Ciudad Condal, Barcelona
Croissant was buttery and paired well with the salty ham and creamy cheese. Bread was a little flat though and not as flaky as I'd hoped. Was not my wife's favorite.
9th PATATAS BRAVAS
Cava Baja 17, Madrid
This patatas bravas comes with either a spicy brava sauce or a garlic aioli, we got it half and half. The brava sauce had some decent spice to it and the aioli was quite strong, I was glad to mix them.
10th CROQUETAS DE JAMON Y QUESO
Los Secretos de Lola Restaurant, Madrid
These were the more traditional potato based croquettes with ham and cheese. They were well fried and accompanied by a tasty sauce, but were a little mushier in the middle than I prefer.
11th POLLO ALA CURRY
Casa Colon, Granada
It is important to note that these tapas come with your drink so they are very small. I really enjoyed the curry and chicken in this and it paired well with the cous cous. The drinks are cheap and easily worth the cost already so this is just solid value added on.
12th PIMIENTOS DE PADRÓN
Cava Baja 17, Madrid
Roasted peppers with salt and garlic, a nice way to pop some veggies in between plates.
13th CHAMPIÑONES AL AJILLO
Vino Wine & Tapas Room, Los Angeles
A tasty skillet of mushroom with good flavor. I would have enjoyed them cooked down a little more.
14th FLAUTA WITH HAM AND TOMATO
Ciudad Condal, Barcelona
Very good crusty bread with tomato rubbed into it and ham. Flavor of the ham came through nicely.
PRETTY GOOD
15th ALBONDIGAS
Vino Wine & Tapas Room, Los Angeles
Reasonable meatballs with slightly over whipped potatoes. Decent but not very memorable.
16th BREAD WITH ASPARAGUS
Taberna Tempranillo, Madrid
Toasted bread with eggs and roasted asparagus. It was decent but the yolks were a bit over cooked and I feel like it needed some salt.
17th PATATAS BRAVAS
Ciudad Condal, Barcelona
Well crisped potatoes with a garlic sauce and a slightly spicy sauce on the side. I liked the garlic flavor and the spicy sauce, but the main sauce was too much mayo for me.
JUST OK
18th BREAD WITH CURED CORNED BEEF
Taberna Tempranillo, Madrid
This was quite plain and dry, there may have been a little butter on the bread but I could not tell. The corned beef was super dense and sweet. It felt like some type of jerky cured in syrup. Very unlike any corned beef I've had before.
19th RAZOR CLAMS
Ciudad Condal, Barcelona
Some of the better clams I've had, but they still had a distinctly ocean flavor to them and more than half had a sandy bit.
20th ARTICHOKE HEARTS WITH JAMON IBERICO
Cava Baja 17, Madrid
The leaves were decently cooked when paired with the flavorful ham, but the centers were mushy and overall did not have much flavor.
NOT FOR ME
21st QUESADILLA WITH HAM
Casa Colon, Granada
It is important to note that these tapas come for free with your drink so they are very mini. This quesadilla was about 3 inches across, but unfortunately it tasted like generic cold cut ham and cheese without very good salsa/guacamole on top.
22nd BREAD WITH SQUID
Taberna Tempranillo, Madrid
The bread was well toasted and the squid was tender but it had lots of mayonnaise (which I don't like) and there was something weird about the squid. My wife thinks it made her sick.
