THESE ARE THE BEST MUSSELS I’VE EVER HAD IN MY LIFE!!!! And I have eaten thousands of the little suckers (bivalves)! 😂😂😂 Prior to this experience, I’d never even heard of edible deep water mussels. I did a bit of research - these are NOT deep SEA mussels, which live near underwater vents (and are not edible)... these are edible mussles that are grown at depth, so they have no sand, and extremely smooth and shiny shells with no “beard”. The result, flavour wise, is exquisite... interestingly full of incredible mussel flavour, but without the stinky funk you sometimes find. Imagine the essence of pure mussel flavour - concentrated to the max. As far as texture is concerned - they are incredible. Soft, tender, meaty and just chewy enough - but not rubbery at all. They melt as you chew them... but not in the weird, mushy way that poor quality mussels sometimes are. They’re just mega soft, but consistently so. Does this make sense? 😁🤪 I had two plates of these. Will go again soon for more!
